The Workforce Planning Role sits in the Department for Work and Pensions & Department for Health & Social Care (DHSC) Support Team which works across the Department for Work and Pensions and Department for Health and Social Care Joint Work & Health Directorate.

The Directorate is responsible for delivering better work outcomes and work experiences for disabled people and people with health conditions.

Job description

The Workforce Planning Manager will build and maintain a dynamic stakeholder network to successfully plan and manage staff numbers across a highly visible and fast paced Directorate encompassing DWP and DHSC personnel, ensuring the alignment of staffing numbers with Cabinet Office requirements.

The successful candidate will use excellent organisational and communication skills to validate the Directorate monthly staffing position, informing the Policy Group (PG) Workforce Team of impending changes and answering any resulting queries.

They’ll record all leavers and joiners, identifying their moves within PG and directorates, maintaining communication with Policy Group  Workforce Planning regarding any validation issues. 

Duties also include: 

1. Ensuring that Directorate’s Line Managers complete any required SOP actions, so payroll headcount is accurate

2. Understanding and informing the Directorate’s Recruitment needs and campaigns 

  • Being aware of planned leavers / plans to recruit / reorganisations. Identifying known joiners and obtaining details for forecasting purposes
  • Co-ordinating directorate bid requests for recruitment campaigns
  • Ensuring that the Director is advised of any issues
  • Ensuring that all vacancies, approval requests and campaign bids are included on Directorate Workforce plans

3. Approving Directorate Recruitment requests, supporting or challenging Vacancies Holders where required and ensuring that all requests follow correct processes

4. Liaise with central data teams within DWP and DHSC to create a two-way communication channel to ensure workforce plans are maintained in line with agreed headcount allocations.

5. Produce monthly reports as required for Senior Leadership teams and capturing and presenting workforce priorities, risks and upcoming deadlines in a clear and concise manner.

In addition, the successful candidate must also be willing to work flexibly within the JWHD Support Team to support the Director, Deputy Directors (DD’s) and their Divisions, e.g. but not limited to managing DD’s calendars and In boxes as well as providing administrative support to Divisions to cover Diary Manager duties during periods of absence.

  • Competent and confident when using Microsoft Office products, eg. Excel, Word

  • Familiar with SharePoint and Teams.

Hybrid Working

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home.  This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

We are not looking at how much time you have spent in a job, but rather how you have performed. Your Personal Statement must show demonstrable evidence of what you did, how you did it, and what outcome was achieved. This should include the impact of your approach and evidence of your ability to take forward different approaches in different circumstances.

The standards detailed in the Experience Key Criteria are the minimum expectations for the role and only candidates with the strongest evidence will be invited to interview. 2. Interview Stage

If you are successful at the sift you will be invited to a MS Teams interview. The interview will comprise of Behaviour-Based questions, and shorter strength based questions.
