About the job

Job summary

We are recruiting for Team Leaders for teams across our end to end production flowline  – the team that the successful candidate would be allocated to would depend on where a vacancy falls at the time of appointment.  All roles will involve managing a team of approximately 10 to 12 staff.

On taking up a post, successful candidates will be required to undertake the Level 3 Team Leader Apprenticeship, if they haven’t already completed this, or an equivalent line management development programme.

These first line management roles are key to enabling Operations to meet its’ targets and in maintaining high levels of engagement within the team.

Team Leaders are responsible for enabling their teams to deliver their outputs to the time, cost and quality standards for their functional area and ensuring that team members are effectively supported and developed.

Each team works differently, balancing business need with the preferences of the team as a whole and supporting individual needs.  Therefore, the opportunities to work in a hybrid way will be shaped by your team and how they work.   As an indicator, most Team Leaders are likely to be working on site, from the Taunton Office 2 or 3 days per week as a minimum.

[Please note our Policy on informal hybrid working (arrangements available as agreed with the line manager) does not extend to working overseas].

Whilst we welcome applications from those seeking part-time work, please note, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to work a minimum of 29/30 hours per week over 4 days.

Please see this video below for more about working at the UKHO.

Job description

The primary tasks of the Team Leader are as follows:

  • Lead and manage staff within the team in accordance with the UKHO People Policies.
  • Establish/improve/maintain team performance and ensure development plans are in place for each team member.
  • Plan and manage all work within the team – provide resource for routine and ad-hoc tasks, ensuring that weekly targets for cost, quality, quantity and timeliness are met. This will differ between teams.
  • Identify, generate and report relevant and timely Management Information (MI) to the Team/Group Manager, ensure any emerging issues are identified and escalated and any lessons learned are embedded in the team.
  • Maintain daily communications with the team, using most effective and inclusive methods available, in order to build/maintain high levels of engagement within the team.
  • Lead and progress change within the team engaging with staff through transparent communication and providing support as required.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and Production Engineering to identify, plan and deliver Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Represent the Team Manager as required.

Person specification

Please note that we will only score against the sift and interview criteria and not the criteria below.

Team Leader roles can be challenging yet hugely rewarding. We work in a fluid environment, where anticipating and responding to changing circumstances and requirements whilst keeping the team on track requires personal resilience and the ability to look outside of the immediate task.

Successful candidates will have the ability to engage with their team members, supporting them as individuals and progressing outputs and change activities in the team based on business priorities. Teams are made up of technical specialists with a varying range of skill levels and experiences, so the ability to support both the development of the team and development of individuals, tailoring your approach as appropriate, is essential.

Benefits
