As our Studio Technical Operator you will work a hybrid pattern and will be on site at Exeter HQ up to four days per week. You can choose to work more frequently in our state-of-the-art office if you'd prefer.

As our Studio Technical Operator, your starting salary will be £32100.00. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minimum. Our 2022-25 pay award means the salary will increase to £33559.00 from 1st April 2024, and you will be able to progress towards £36000.00 over time.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £44,696 annually, which includes basic salary, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Job description

Job Purpose:

As our Studio Technical Operator, your key responsibilities are:

  • Operate studio equipment including cameras, audio, lighting, chroma key, touch screen and recording/editing systems.
  • Record, edit, stream video content, ensuring it meets quality and format standards.
  • Act as Studio Operator to meet daily production schedules of output for commercial customers, syndication partners and the Met Office.
  • Generate and publish scheduled, reactive and live video across a range of video platforms and social media channels.
  • Work with internal and external partners to deploy, develop and support video services.
  • Maintain studio equipment and systems during operation.
  • Act as 1st line support for technical issue resolution, escalating to 2nd line support (Studio Manager) as required.
  • Identify new opportunities to create relevant video content to support Met Office objectives.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Evidence of technical skills with an ability to rapidly grasp and adapt to new technologies.
  2. Proficient in the use of video and audio equipment.
  3. You will need to be better together and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including working in a team in a busy environment.
  4. Experience following established technical processes and completing routine tasks with precise attention to detail.
  5. Confident in supporting in the resolution of unforeseen challenges and working as a team to proactively minimise impacts.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
