About the job

Job summary

We are the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) bringing together business and trade into a single economic growth department. DBT brings sector, markets and regulation experts together with world-class trade negotiators and business support teams across the UK and the international network to make the UK the best place to start and grow a business – helping create the business growth that contributes to better jobs and higher wages and living standards.

The department spans the business and regulatory environment, works to support investment and exports, and opens new markets through removing trade barriers, signing trade deals, and supporting businesses to operate both at home and abroad.

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic person to join DBT’s Strategy Unit, a team sitting at the heart of the organisation. You will join a dynamic team which works closely with Ministers and Senior Officials within the department to set and deliver the department’s priorities and objectives. The Strategy Unit is a supportive team, and will give you the right tools and training to succeed and help you to develop your career further.

The successful candidate will support the department’s priorities across a number of areas including delivering cross-cutting priorities such as supporting DBT’s work on equalities, better regulation, and levelling up; engaging with cross-government strategies; driving long-term departmental strategic planning; and supporting major fiscal events. In return, you’ll get a work culture that values everyone and where you are encouraged to succeed.

Job description

You will work as part of a team to deliver exciting and varied work, such as:

  • Drafting high quality briefings and submissions for Ministers and Senior Officials to support their cross-government engagement.
  • Building capability across the department on integrating the Public Sector Equality Duty and Better Regulation Framework into policymaking.
  • Working with colleagues across Government to progress priority workstreams and strategies on key government priorities such as economic growth.
  • Supporting the project management of key departmental processes and events, such as the Outcome Delivery Plan, fiscal events and Ministerial away days.

Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.

Support in applying for our vacancies is available by joining a virtual Candidate Support Session. These sessions include helpful tips and advice on the recruitment process, from application to interview.
