Senior Technical Team Leader

Have you ever thought about developing a career in property and construction with an organisation that operates on a global scale to deliver a first-class service for the UK government and our international partners? A career where you’ll help to install, commission and decommission technical security systems both in the UK and overseas for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and other departments of the UK government. If you’re looking for your job, but bigger, this could be your next move.

Job description

As a trusted government partner we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides. Its exciting work – and you could play a vital part as you take on a role that supports the success of our property and construction operation.

Deliver specialist expertise to support critical government work

Join us in this key role and you’ll lead and manage technical teams of up to ten specialists, and ensure that all work is done safely and to approved designs. Managing, coaching and developing the team so they produce work of the very highest quality, you’ll use all your knowledge and expertise to provide input on designs so they meet our customers’ needs, and assist with the preparation of equipment prior to its installation.

You’ll have a number of other significant responsibilities, including developing and implementing safe systems of work, and ensuring staff co-operate with risk assessments and health and safety policies. We’ll also expect you to maintain your own professional development and expertise, keep up to date with the latest technologies and practices, use your skills to advise on maintenance tasks, and investigate, diagnose and resolve any issues in support of our technical staff based overseas.

Use all your initiative and experience to make a real difference

This is a role where your time and people management skills will come into their own, and your BTEC Level 3 qualification in electronic and electrical engineering will be put to good use. Capable of working at pace on your own initiative and with minimal guidance, you’ll be ready and willing to travel the world and adapt to a wide range of different standards of living.

It’s important that you have proven knowledge of at least one or more of the following skills sets: CCTV/ACS/IAPA/PCO/Radio, and in addition to being a member of a relevant professional body such as IET, you’ll have experience of working overseas in a secure environment. Attendance at recognised management or team leading courses will put you at an advantage, as will project management knowledge and an understanding of the planning, programming and scheduling of work.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas.  How will we help you in return? We offer a competitive salary, 25-30 days’ annual leave per year (depending on length of service) and a Civil Service pension. This role offers a superb range of insights into the world of international property and construction, and you’ll have access to a wide range of training and development opportunities. While in the office you’ll have access to an on-site gym, nursery and canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. Above all else, we can offer your job, bigger. As a Senior Technical Team Leader, you’ll be working on projects that help us protect people, information and assets around the world. Using your skills in a way that just means more.

Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/
