Summary

This influential and rewarding role offers you the opportunity to use your geospatial knowledge and management skills to support and improve the Marine Management Organisation’s (MMO) capability to gain insights, make decisions, and communicate across all areas of work, particularly Marine Planning, Marine Licensing, and Fisheries Management.

Description

This role sits within the Data, Technical Assurance, and Information (DTI) Team, part of the Digital & Analysis (D&A) Directorate.

The Senior Technical Assurance Specialist will interpret and analyse complex information, across a diverse spectrum, including technology, system integration, IT supply chain delivery and business requirements, to effect technical assurance and alignment of new and existing systems to Defra and HMG standards.

Coordinating and supporting the Technical Design Authority in the provision of governance across a range of IT suppliers. You will ensure efficient use of IT technical resources by detailed data gathering and analysis techniques. You will also ensure technology best practice and work with colleagues to improve knowledge and capability.

 The delivery of the technical assurance remit will contribute to the achievement of MMO’s objectives and standards.

You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and suppliers. You will help the delivery of the technical assurance remit that contributes to the achievement of the objectives and standards of a UK government regulator. 

Responsibilities

As Senior Technical Assurance Specialist, you will:

  • Provision technical assurance input across a wide variety of business services, using your extensive technical and ITIL framework knowledge to benefit the delivery of new projects and existing system changes to support delivery of MMO Strategic goals.
  • Assist in the delivery of IT Technical Assurance artefacts and the presentation of these in a format to enable data derived senior management decisions, up to and including Senior Civil Service (Director) level or equivalent.
  • Be responsible for and shape the utilisation of systems and processes, to accurately collect, collate, analyse, and document all forms of IT Technical Specialist augmentation resource requests, allocation, and expenditure, including sensitive contractual data. With recommendations delivered in an efficient format to support decision making up to and including Senior Civil Service (Director) level or equivalent.
  • Working with DDTS colleagues, interpret technology choices and systems integration in a meaningful way, which allows the identification of issues, and provide specialist input into making effective change provision to support delivery of MMO Strategic goals.
  • Support the Governance model by the planning, scheduling of monthly Technical Design Authority Meetings, including timetabling preparatory work, circulating Agendas and associated papers ensuring they are available in a timely manner.
  • Accountable for the maintenance of the inventory of IT design artefacts and the development of technical assurance business flow documentation to MMO standards.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external technology delivery teams, business SMEs, to build to build strong relationships and implement optimum ways of working.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy policies, legislation and confidentiality is always maintained.

You will be supported in continuing your professional development, including IT industry standard certifications.

Travel may be required to MMO’s Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne for occasional team meetings/face-to-face contact.
