Job summary

We are currently looking for a Senior Scientist – Molecular and Immunochemistry to join our Control Testing team within the Science, Research & Innovation group.

 

This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be lab based in South Mimms, Hertfordshire. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

It is divided into 6 sub-Groups, Innovation Accelerator, Clinical Investigations and Trials, Research and Development, Standards Lifecycle, Control Testing and Quality Assurance and Health & Safety.

 

The Control Testing team delivers the statutory function of independent control testing of biological medicines, including blood products and vaccines, helping to ensure patients have access to new and existing products.

What’s the role?

The role will provide scientific expertise and support within a team of analytical scientists focused on molecular and immunochemistry assays for the analysis of biological medicines as part of the Agency’s independent batch release function. The Molecular and Immunochemistry team will perform a range of analytical techniques including, but not limited to ELISA-based assays, immunodiffusion, quantitation of mRNA by fluorescence and will provide support to the Molecular assays team responsible for PCR-based assays, nucleic acid sequencing and adventitious agent detection.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply scientific expertise and provide key support within the team to deliver the timely supply of safe and effective vaccines and blood products to patients.

Job description

Key responsibilities: 

 

-          Ensure analytical assays are performed in compliance with ISO17025, including assay development, validation and troubleshooting.

 

-          Manage the day-to-day implementation and delivery of improvements in patient outcomes through organisation of resources, process improvement and changes in working practice, including training and innovative assay development.

 

-          Advise and supervise training of staff in specific assays and administration of control testing.

 

-          Engage with stakeholders, as required by the team lead, including colleagues across the Agency and other National Control Laboratories and manufacturers to ensure quality of service and patients’ access to medicines.

Person specification

Who are we looking for? 

 

Our successful candidate will have: 

-          A relevant degree and extensive experience, in ELISA-based assays and the molecular analysis of biological medicines, including vaccines and/or blood-derived products.

 

-          Extensive experience of working accurately and precisely, typically achieved through working within an ISO17025 quality management system.

 

-          Experience of using a Laboratory Information Management System for accurate data capture, analysis and review.

 

-          Ability to create a professional collaborative environment to motivate staff, be supportive and effective at managing change and implementing improvements.

 

-          Ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, using clear communication to foster collaboration, deliver expert services, training, scientific and technical advice.
