About the job

Job summary

Are you an experienced radiological professional looking for a challenging new role?

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your skills to deliver meaningful work that makes a difference?

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a small government department with a big mission: to keep food safe, ensure that it is what it says it is, and that it is increasingly healthy and more sustainable. Our teams consider all sorts of risks to the food we eat and engage with solutions that will keep consumers safe whenever they eat.

We are looking for a Radiological Senior Policy Adviser who can help us ensure that regulation of radioactivity in food, from planned and accidental releases, and of irradiated foods in the UK is fit for purpose and capable of protecting consumers.

The Civil Service is committed to attract, retain and invest in talent wherever it is found. To learn more please see the Civil Service People Plan and the Civil Service D&I Strategy.

Job description

You’ll lead our efforts to deliver comprehensive and effective radiological risk management policy and empower us to deliver evidence-based advice that will impact legislation. You will oversee the delivery of radiological monitoring, analysis and reporting, and will play a key role in our response to incidents that involve irradiated foods.

At the heart of this role there is a need for effective collaboration with colleagues across the Civil Service. You’ll work alongside other departments with differing priorities, and your ability to team up with others and communicate the importance of the FSA’s own considerations will be key to our success in keeping food safe.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your experience to help make a lasting impact on food on tables across the country. If you are looking for a role that makes a difference and offers new and interesting challenges, apply today to join us as our Radiological Senior Policy Adviser.
