Job description

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Driven by government’s aim for clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas, MMO’s purpose is to protect and enhance our precious marine environment and support UK economic growth by enabling sustainable marine activities and development.

We are the independent regulator for England’s seas, professionally delivering service-focussed outcomes for our customers.

We are a team of around 500 people and combine our Newcastle upon Tyne and London operations with a local presence around the English coastline and other Defra offices including Bristol, Cambridge and York.

Job description 

This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment. This is a key role for the MMO which is required to meet MMO’s aspirations of efficient customer focused delivery that evolves with policy intent and technology advances. 

Project Delivery

  • Delivery Lead - Lead & oversee the delivery of Change Projects within MMO’s Portfolio of Change, providing effective leadership and management controls.
  • Strategic Planning - Lead the planning of projects to a high standard, ensuring that key milestones are baselined
  • Reporting- Produce detailed highlight reports providing Programme Board with confidence and assurance that the delivery of organisational change is on track, and risks are understood and effectively managed.
  • Business Case - Deliver agreed Business Case benefits and outcomes, ensuring appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the Business Case.
  • Risk and Issue Management - Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate. Identify and work with related projects to manage
  • Governance & Assurance - Support effective governance and decision making, championing the application of good governance across the organisation
  • Finance - Develop the budget and track delivery within budget. Liaise with Finance to ensure project products accurately reflect projects costs, budgets and spend.
  • People Management - Matrix manage a range of project resources including service design, technical / IT, BAU / Subject Matter Experts technical resources
