Are you ready to make a significant impact in the digital markets sector? We are seeking a dedicated Senior Project Officer to join our new Digital Markets Unit (DMU). This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a pro-competition digital markets regime that will benefit consumers and businesses across the UK.

About the CMA

We help people, businesses, and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our work is wide ranging, ambitious and often new and challenging.

The DMU has been established to promote greater competition and innovation in digital markets, for the benefit of consumers and people. Our work focuses on some of the most important digital markets used by consumers and business in the UK, like online search, social media, app stores and online marketplaces.

It is an exciting time to join the DMU – we are passionate about what we do and offer a supportive environment, with opportunities to be involved in a wide range of interesting work.

We are also recruiting to the position of Senior Digital Markets Adviser for which you would need to make a separate application.

The DMU will host a drop-in session for prospective candidates interested in working for the CMA. Candidates are invited to join a virtual session where the team will explain the work of the DMU and you can hear from existing team members about their experiences. Recruiting managers will be on hand to ask any questions you may have about the vacancies in team.

Job description

As a Senior Project Officer, Digital Markets, you will play a crucial role in delivering the CMA's new digital markets regime. You will be an integral part of the newly established Programme Office, supporting the planning and tracking of projects and ensuring that the unit meets its responsibilities. This includes managing resource allocation, governance, and reporting processes, monitoring, and escalating risks, and addressing the DMU's training needs. You will collaborate closely with key teams and stakeholders within the DMU and across other areas of the CMA to ensure effective project delivery and team capacity building.

Person specification

It is essential that you can provide evidence and examples for each of the following selection criteria in your application. For tips on how to make the most your application, please have a look at our guidance document.

Essential:

  • Experience successfully contributing to projects or workstreams within projects to challenging timescales, using problem solving and keeping track of progress to ensure quality outcomes (lead criteria). 
  • Experience communicating effectively (both verbally and in writing) with a range of audiences, tailoring communications appropriately and securing buy-in to ideas (lead criteria).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to develop strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including those from other professional backgrounds (lead criteria).
  • Experience of developing recommendations, drawing on analysis of a wide range of information and identifying and communicating key risks.

Desirable:

  • An interest in and/or prior experience managing process change across a team or organisation. 

Benefits

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

The selection process will comprise of the sift (CV & application review) and interview.

 An initial sift based on lead criteria 1 and 2 may be held if a large number of applications are received.

If your application then progresses to a full sift, all elements of the essential criteria listed under Person Specification of the role profile will then be considered.

The sift will take place week commencing Monday 17 June 2024.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an interview.

This will be a 45-60 minute panel interview, where you will be asked behaviour-based questions based on the behaviours and experience specified in the role profile.

Please note that interviews will be held virtually via MS Teams.

The first part of interview will comprise of a presentation or written assessment, the topic of which will be shared with you should you be selected for an interview and advance preparation may be required.

You will be notified via email to log-in to your Civil Service Account to book your interview slot. You will then be sent an email with full details of your arrangements for interview.

Interviews are expected to be held week commencing Monday 1 July 2024.
