Job description

As a Senior Project Manager, you will manage the delivery of medium to large projects, support programme managers and work with and support the Portfolio Management Office.

The successful candidates will promote the use of preferred delivery methodologies (PRINCE2, AGILE, MSP and SCRUM) across the Change Portfolio, while supporting the Head of Profession to develop best practice for project delivery and share with the wider profession.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Planning and managing projects from outset to closure, including developing the business case, project plan and interdependencies.
  • Preparing project reports as appropriate to the stage of projects and support effective governance and decision making, including milestones and escalations or project deviations.
  • Establish and manage projects’ risk and issue management, including the development of contingency plans.
  • Ensure effective change management processes are in place to agree and document changes to deliverables as agreed with stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage project budgets.

Person specification

We are looking for applicants with significant proven experience of successfully delivering projects and programmes. You will have excellent communication skills and can interact confidently with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels. 

You will be experienced in reporting, risk management, benefits delivery, stakeholder management, budgeting and costing experience. You are highly proficient in broad range of Programme and Project Management delivery, skills, and techniques. 

You can demonstrate a working knowledge of portfolio management and are experienced in writing business cases. 

If not already held, there will be development opportunities to work towards one of the following when in post.

  • PRINCE2 Foundation, Practitioner level.
  • Agile PM Foundation, Practitioner level.
  • APM Foundation, Practitioner level.

Additional Information

This role can be based in Bristol, Newcastle, Nottingham or Swansea, your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.

The successful candidates may be required to travel to other locations, including occasional overnight stays. 

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least three days per week.

Selection process details

Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 15 July 2024.
