The team also undertakes a range of projects to investigate and advise the executive and board on new and emerging issues.

Job description

Job Purpose

You, as Senior Policy Manager, will proactively and collaboratively lead policy and strategy projects, working with colleagues across ORR and the rail industry. Projects are generally high-profile, and cross-organisational. They may include overseeing our horizon scanning and strategic risk approaches for the organisation, considering the impact of AI on the industry and ORR, responding to central government’s proposals for changes to legislation, regulations or guidance, contributing to thinking on the future culture of the rail industry and strategically co-ordinating a number of rail reform projects across ORR.

We are excited about welcoming someone to the team who relishes the challenge of exploring new areas in policy and strategy and is always keen to develop themselves and others. We value enthusiasm and energy, and in return you will be supported by a caring and fun team. An open mind and a creative approach will enable you to think deeply about some of the strategic challenges that rail and ORR are facing, and your strong written and verbal skills will enable you to articulate solutions to those challenges. Your openness and confidence with stakeholders will build strong relationships, advancing ORR’s agenda.

Rail, policy and/or regulation experience are not essential, but a willingness to get stuck in and learn is indispensable.
