Job description

We are looking for two ambitious new team members to join our friendly and fast paced Cyber Resilience Policy team.

The Cyber Resilience team is responsible for delivering an exciting range of work to create effective cyber risk management and resilience across the UK economy.  

The team is based across the UK and works in remote and hybrid environments. We have a high challenge - high support environment, encouraging open and innovative policy thinking.

We are recruiting 2 SEO policy advisors. The roles are within our digital supply chains team and digital service providers team.

1. Digital supply chains team

The digital supply chains team lead on improving software security and resilience across UK digital supply chains. 

The role is primarily focussed on supporting the development, publication, and implementation of a software code of practice.  This will include leading on engagement, both domestic and international, and the development of the evidence base to assess the effectiveness of the implementation of the code.

The team is based across the UK and works in remote and hybrid environments. We have a high challenge - high support environment, encouraging open and innovative policy thinking.

2. Digital service providers team

The digital service providers team lead on improving the security and resilience of digital service providers.

The role is primarily focussed on developing policy towards digital service providers, including supporting the legislative elements of the UK Government’s interventions on digital services.

Person specification

1. Digital supply chains team

Key responsibilities - Provide support for the ongoing development of the software code through public consultation to publication.  This will include leading on stakeholder engagement, and the initial assessment of consultation responses, providing evidence based recommendations on amendments to the code.

-  Lead the digital supply chains team’s international programme of work. This includes:

o Developing a strategic plan for international engagement linked to the code of practice and open source software work.

o Identifying opportunities for strategic engagement, including in multilateral fora, to promote our approach, collaborate internationally, and ensure alignment.

o Leading day-to-day international engagements and work with seniors to brief them for other engagements as necessary

- Lead work to explore opportunities to link the software code of practice to legislation.  This will include working with legal and analytical colleagues, and cross government networks to develop the evidence base, assessing the uptake and implementation of the code of practice, and exploring options to link the code to other existing or proposed legislation.

2. Digital service providers team

Key responsibilities

o Lead on the UK Government’s policy towards digital service providers, with a focus on online marketplaces and online search engines.

o Lead on the legislative elements of the UK Government’s interventions on digital services.  This will include acting as the main contact point for current legislative proposals, as well as leading on scoping work for future proposals.

o Lead day-to-day international engagements, and monitor and report on international developments in digital services.

Skills and Experience 

Essential criteria

- Strong ability to work independently and proactively, taking ownership of your portfolio and leading work confidently to provide clear direction and recommendations that meet your, and the team's, objectives.

- Ability to analyse a range of evidence, interpreting a range of research and analysis and thinking critically to make effective decisions and communicate these clearly.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of being able to communicate complex issues to influence and gain buy-in from stakeholders, including seniors, technical and non-technical audiences.

- Ability to establish effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders, cultivating and maintaining stakeholder networks.

- Demonstration of strong organisational skills.

Desirable criteria

- Understanding and experience of working with legislation, regulations, and an awareness of the legislative and parliamentary processes.

- Knowledge of, and interest in, cyber security and resilience issues facing organisations
