Job summary

The NCA has grown in size and complexity in recent years and it is vital that it maintains a security posture and capabilities to protect against existing, new and emerging threats. 

The Integrated Protective Security Command (IPS) is responsible for securing the Agency to protect the public. The IPS mission statement is: Securing the Agency to protect the public "Delivering integrated protective security to build a resilient, high-trust Agency able to lead the UK’s fight to cut serious and organised crime."

IPS safeguards the NCA from the full range of security threats that target the Agency, our officers and our assets, to enable the organisation to achieve its operational objectives, both domestically and overseas, with flexibility, agility and integrity. Its officers provide specialist security services to the Agency 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, to mitigate security risks.

Job description

The NCA'S Business Continuity Management Team works within the NCA’s Integrated Protective Security (IPS) command. Our role is to maintain relationships with all areas of NCA business, ensuring that  robust and regularly tested business continuity plans are maintained to protect the agency's critical activities, key products and services ensuring the agency can continue to conduct its business safely and securely in the face of unexpected disruption and protect all NCA staff, its operations/investigations, assets, capabilities and reputation.

We are currently looking to recruit two Senior Officers to join our Business Continuity Management team. We welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

This role will appeal to someone who has a keen eye for detail who wishes to expand their knowledge and understanding of the whole agency, with the opportunity to engage with senior leadership and a broad range of internal and external stakeholders to influence change and make an important contribution to overall agency resilience.   

Please note; There will be a need to travel occasionally to different sites across the organisation.

Person specification

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Business Continuity Manager, providing resilience and assurance in the role, including liaison with the Business Continuity executive sponsor and governance structures; 
  • Supervise a team of officers to manage the business as usual requirements of the Business Continuity Management team, prioritising and allocating incoming work and managing and developing the Business Continuity Management System, utilising BCM management information tools and an actions tracker;   
  • Manage a suite of Business Continuity Plans, supported by appropriate policy, operating procedures and other supporting documents; ensuring every team has robust BCPs in place to support its Critical Functions;
  • Consider agency Site Specific Critical Incident Management Plans (SSCIMPs), supported by appropriate policy, operating procedures and other supporting documents; ensuring each site has a robust plan, reviewed and tested annually;
  • Direct the collection and analysis of Critical Functions’ Business Impact Assessments (BIA) providing results and products as well as collaborating with other stakeholders to determine ranking and prioritisation to help recovery solutions;
  • Conduct business continuity exercises to test plans, assumptions and resilience, working with business areas to close gaps, improve processes and increase resilience;
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to foster collaborative working; this includes senior leaders and managers, and the Business Continuity SPOC network; 
  • Participate in internal and external audits of the BCMS, to maintain ISO certification, working with the BCM and engaging with auditors and business area representatives to explain processes and procedures, ensure documentary evidence is presented and follow-up on recommendations for improvement to ensure compliance;
  • Supervise the maintenance and development of the Business Continuity Knowledge Hub to increase awareness and understanding, of business continuity policy, protocols, best practice and compliance standards; 
  • Undertake horizon scanning to identify potential disruptive events and emerging threats and research Business Continuity software solutions to streamline and improve the efficiency of data collection and analysis within the business continuity management system.
