Senior Internal Communications Manager – Transformation Projects - Role Overview

Based in the agency’s corporate communications function, as Senior Internal Communications Manager you’ll be part of our internal communications team. You’ll be as passionate as we are about creating responsive communications that inspire, inform, and respond to our internal audiences.

The VOA is currently delivering the biggest transformation of the agency in recent history: encompassing our IT, our processes, our data, how we communicate and deal with our customers, our interactions with Local Authorities and the way our people do their job. You’ll work closely with programme and change management teams to shape, develop and deliver targeted change communication plans.

Senior Internal Communications Manager – Transformation Projects – Key Responsibilities

  • Providing advice and guidance to transformation programme directors and change team colleagues, building strong working relationships and becoming a trusted advisor.
  • Developing and delivering communications plans and campaigns that support the agency’s transformation and ensuring alignment between internal communications and related stakeholder and external communications.
  • Developing content for a range of internal communications channels, working with the wider communications team.
  • Working with colleagues to shape and test communications to ensure it supports cultural and behavioural change.
  • Evaluating change communications activity, assessing its impact and effectiveness, and adjusting communication plans accordingly.

Person specification

We are looking for an experienced communicator to help us ensure that communications activity supports, involves, and listens to colleagues. This post requires someone with strong writing and planning skills and a track record of developing and delivering successful internal communications campaigns across a range of channels.

They must have the ability to build strong working relationships whilst being able to constructively challenge and influence stakeholders at all levels in the organisation, sharing understanding of how internal communications can support change and employee engagement.

As Senior Internal Communications Manager the successful candidate will be the first point of contact for internal stakeholders seeking communications support and advice, so we are looking for someone with energy and enthusiasm with a focus on their internal customers to join the team.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working in a professional communications role.
  • Experience of delivering internal communications plans and campaigns, including use of insight and evaluation to drive improvements to communications products and approach.
  • Content development skills for a range of channels.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with experience of advising senior stakeholders.
  • Experience of working at pace in a complex organisation.

Behaviours

You are required, under the Behaviours approach, to describe how you have dealt with a specific situation. You must give evidence of your knowledge, skills and behaviours and how you have applied this, such as what you did or said and how you interacted with other people.

When you are giving your examples, do not spend too many words on description and background information. Avoid using general or unspecific statements. Instead say what the situation was, what you did what your thought process was and so on.

Presentation 

You will also be required to conduct a 10-minute presentation on the approach and impact of a recent communication campaign that you have delivered.
