About the job

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at HM Land Registry (HMLR) for a Senior Internal Auditor to join our Finance and Business Services directorate. If you want to be instrumental in leading high-profile audits across the organisation, we would love to hear from you.

Job description

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will play a vital role in the delivery of assurance services to support HMLR’s ambition. You will report to a Senior Internal Audit Manager and support the Head of Internal Audit in delivering the organisation’s internal audit services. You will be responsible for providing assurance to the Chief Executive and Audit and Risk Committee on the effectiveness of the organisation’s governance and risk management.

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake complex audits and a variety of work across the organisation. You will work alongside experienced auditors from a range of sectors and audit backgrounds, in a friendly and supportive team. Learning and development is important to us and there will be opportunities to develop broader professional education and to be supported in wider personal and professional development as part of this role.

Person specification

We're looking for an audit specialist with recent internal audit experience and knowledge and expertise in assurance. You will have effective communication skills, both verbal and written (especially in report writing) and can communicate key messages clearly and succinctly to senior leaders.

You will take a strong analytical approach to information and data, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and effective problem-solving skills. You will be highly organised and can manage multiple assignments within tight timelines and with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, demonstrating the ability to relate to people at all levels in an organisation to establish and maintain respect both professionally and personally is essential.

Candidates are preferred to hold a full current membership of a recognised professional accountancy/audit body as detailed below:

  • Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors UK & Ireland
You must hold the chartered auditor/CMIIA designation or the MIIA designation where you qualified under the previous exam route and did not apply to make this chartered.
    Or
  • Other Institutes of Internal Auditors that are part of IIA Global
If you studied with the Institute of Internal Auditors in another country, you must hold the equivalent of the MIIA designation. You should verify this with the IIA UK & Ireland prior to submitting your application, by emailing membership@iia.org.uk.
    Or
  • Accountancy
Fully Qualified, current member of one of the five CCAB bodies (ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS and Chartered Accountants Ireland) or CIMA.

HMLR believe that a blended approach to where you work that enables some time working from home, as well as in the office may give you an improved experience and has clear business benefits. We expect everyone to spend at least 60% of their working time in the office. Beyond this expectation, there is no one size fits all approach (and we can spend up to 100% working in the office if we prefer).

Where an individual taking up the responsibility will be based in Swansea Office, the ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

For more information about the role, please see the attached candidate pack.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £41,887, HM Land Registry contributes £11,309 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths, Experience and Technical skills.

We want to keep this process as easy as possible for you so just upload an anonymised CV to include your qualifications, career history, skills and experience when prompted, ensuring you cover those areas listed under the 'Essential / Preferred Qualification and Essential Experience Criteria' section on page 3 of the attached candidate pack.

Please review your application form before clicking ‘submit’ – once you have submitted, you will not be able to amend your application. Ensure your application form is received by the closing date for receipt of applications – this is 23:55pm on the advertised date.

The sift will take place shortly after the closing date. If successful at the shortlisting stage, you will be invited to attend a virtual, blended interview through Microsoft Teams. Interviews will be held week commencing Monday 18 March 2024.

The blended interview will assess the behaviours and experience listed in the candidate pack, as well as the strengths associated with the role. We want to hear your first, unrehearsed, natural response to the strength questions, and so we don’t advertise which strengths are being tested. The best way to prepare for strengths questions is to reflect on what you identify as your own personal strengths, and your preferred ways of working.

Candidates may refer to notes within their video interview but they should be used as a prompt only.

HMLR is accredited to the Disability Confidence Scheme, which denotes organisations which have a positive attitude towards disabled people. Disabled applicants who meet the minimum essential criteria at the shortlisting stage are guaranteed an invitation to interview.

If any candidate requires the panel to consider a reasonable adjustment or there is anything else they would like the panel to take into consideration they are asked to notify us of this at application stage where possible or during the process as soon as it becomes a requirement.

Please note, the Civil Service values honesty and integrity and expect all candidates to abide by these principles. Please ensure all examples provided throughout the entire recruitment process are of your own experience. HM Land Registry take any incidences of cheating very seriously. Any detected instances of plagiarism or other forms of cheating, including the use of artificial intelligence, will be investigated and, if proven, the relevant applications will be withdrawn from the process.

You can find more information on how we use your personal data on our website.

Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
