The Role

We’re recruiting a Senior Interaction Designer to join our friendly and diverse MoJ Design System team here at Justice Digital.

This role aligns against ‘Senior Interaction Designer’ role from the Government Digital and Data Framework

You will work on the MoJ Design System, designing and building accessible components, patterns and pages. You’ll make sure we design things the right way, keeping up with the latest technologies and trends while delivering working software early and often.

Working in a multidisciplinary team with user researchers, content designers and developers, you’ll help transform government for the future.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be working in the MoJ Design System team with the aim of helping Justice Digital to deliver consistent, usable, and accessible products and services.

The MoJ Design System team’s approach is to:

  • provide high quality building blocks for reuse across Justice Digital,
  • help teams across Justice Digital to reduce duplication across products and services, and
  • encourage people to use the MoJ Design

You will:

  • Work with product, development, content and research colleagues to create new components and patterns in the design system.
  • Identify, plan and implement improvements to components used by hundreds of products across the Ministry of Justice and wider Government.
  • Design and test component prototypes with
  • Maintain the design system to work across MoJ Frontend, the GOV prototyping kit, and also Figma.
  • Lead on design workshops with the team, senior stakeholders and
  • Help keep on top of maintenance tasks such as updating the MoJ Figma Kit, raising awareness of maintainability issues, and working with the rest of the team to release updates that are to be adopted by products.
  • Share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, stakeholders, and communities.

Person Specification

You should have:

  • Experience working on a design system to support multiple product teams, as well as experience maintaining large and far reaching UI libraries in Figma.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of accessibility, as well as experience building accessible user interfaces.
  • Experience in rapid You can confidently work with developers and understand security, accessibility, version control and hosting.
  • You can listen to the needs of technical and business stakeholders, and interpret them in a way that is clear for both You know how to manage stakeholder expectations, set direction and navigate difficult discussions.
  • You create high-quality, compelling design concepts and artefacts such as personas, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • You are a strong team player who knows how to work with and get the best out of a multidisciplinary agile delivery team.

Successful candidates who meet the required standard will then be invited to a

90-minute panel interview held via video conference, to be completed as part of the interview.
