We are recruiting a Senior ServiceNow developer to work in our Technology operations team.

As a Senior ServiceNow Developer you will work in a multidisciplinary team participating in agile environment to develop solutions to business problems and translate these into effective workflows, supporting end-to-end business processes using ServiceNow’s best practice tools and technology. You will focus on delivering value to our users and improving the customer experience.

 We are looking for a Senior ServiceNow Developer who has experience working in the following areas:

  • IT Service Management (ITSM),
  • IT Business Management (ITBM),
  • IT Operations Management (ITOM),
  • Integration Hub.

Job description

You will be required to deliver workflow solutions in line with product goals and delivery cycles, while working openly and collaboratively in our team. Above all, you will want to make an impact, which may sometimes involve challenging current methods.

Working within our growing team, we have new potential and exciting opportunities to introduce new features and functionality available from the ServiceNow platform. You will working on things like improving existing workflows and identifying opportunities for automation.

As a senior ServiceNow Developer, you will also provide administration, application development, maintenance, and technical support by using good practice web programming techniques to configure robust solutions.

You will be leading a team of talented developers and be a key member of the senior management team guiding the development of the platform.

Please note: Cover is required between 8am and 5pm with core working hours of 9am- 4pm. Some flexibility may be shown and can be discussed with the successful applicant. Regular travel to Coventry is required for this role. 

Person specification

Essential

  • Modern coding and development standards, practices, and techniques
  • JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow platform (ITSM)
  • Ability to facilitate technical workshops and requirements discussions with stakeholders of varying level of seniority and technical skill
  • Good understanding and experience of agile methodologies
  • UCD focused
  • Integrations, automation, and/or orchestration via workflows, scripting web services/APIs, and IntegrationHub

Desirable:

  • Line management experience
  • Experience of good practices such as Test-Driven Development, CI/CD, and DevOps as well as modern development workflows, ideally using GitHub.
  • Experience of good software design principles such as OOD, SOLID and design patterns
  • Experience of supporting, coaching, and mentoring less experienced developers
  • Experience with ServiceNow CMDB/CSDM
  • ITIL 4 certification

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

Terms and conditions of candidates transferring from ALBs and NDPBs 

Bodies that are not accredited by the Civil Service Commission and are not able to advertise at Across Government on Civil Service jobs will be treated as external new starters and will come into DfE on modernised terms and conditions with a salary at the band minimum. 

Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission but do not have civil service status will be offered modernised terms and will not have continuous service recognised for leave or sickness benefits. Salaries should be offered at band minimum, but there is some flexibility where this would cause a detriment to the individual. 

Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission and do have Civil Service status will be treated as OGD transfers. Staff appointed on lateral transfer will move on to pre-modernised DfE terms (unless they were on modernised terms in their previous organisation). Staff appointed on promotion will move on to modernised DfE terms. Staff will transfer over on their existing salary (on lateral transfer) and any pay above the DfE pay band maximum will be paid as a mark time allowance. Staff moving on promotion will have their salaries calculated using the principles set out in the attached OGD transfer supplementary information.
