The Role

We’re recruiting for a highly motivated and talented Data Engineer here at Justice Digital, to be part of our warm and collaborative Justice Digital team, working in the End User Computing service area and overseeing one of our data functions.

Your role will be responsible for providing the data engineering capabilities required to support data migration of documents from other sources into the MOJ SharePoint Online tenant.

Specifically, you will support Business Analysts, Infrastructure Engineers and Technical Architects working on these projects, enabling them to understand source data estates and their readiness for migration. You will be able to categorise and classify the data stored within the source environment using classification and information governance tooling and assess the degree of housekeeping which would be beneficial to undertake prior to migration.

We will be adopting a ROT driven approach towards only migrating valuable or active data into new SharePoint Online target destinations and you should be able to analyse and report on the impact of adopting different policies and how this will affect any planned migration volumes.

Key responsibilities:

In addition to migration work you will have a BAU role within the team as SME on reporting on the current MOJ SharePoint and OneDrive estates as part of any required data estate management activities.

You will;

  • Assist the architects and engineers in designing any new target sites – primarily assisting on identifying the most suitable information architecture to adopt within SharePoint Online to accommodate both existing data and optimal business functions.
  • Work with solution, technical and security architects to deliver data solutions in accordance with agreed organisational standards that ensure services are resilient, scalable and future-proof.
  • Contribute to migration detailed planning and the development of test scenarios.
  • Perform the majority of migration work within the team, utilising our migration tooling and developing migration scripts and exception management functions.
  • Be an expert use of tools such as ShareGate that support this reporting function and also be a proficient PowerShell developer.
  • Assist with data housekeeping activities as and when required using the appropriate M365 or other SharePoint tooling.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders across the organisation to understand and define their data requirements so that suitable data solutions can then be proposed, agreed and implemented. This will include data solutions that will enable more accurate assessment of costs and outputs of functional areas.
  • Work with organisational senior managers to provide oversight to projects and change activities ensuring data requirements are delivered in accordance with agreed scope and design.
  • Undertake data profiling and source system analysis to understand data categories and classifications (including the classification of unstructured data).
  • Provide actionable data analyses that support and reassure users in adopting a ROT approach to data pre-migration.
  • Review business requirements and specifications, identifying any data dependencies or issues/tasks arising from those requirements.
  • Assist in the development of scripts or other automated methods to enable data to be migrated effectively and efficiently from source to target environment.
