This is an exciting opportunity to work in high-profile operational team of the Energy Consents Unit (ECU), which is a branch of the Energy and Climate Change Directorate of the Scottish Government.

 

Joining ECU will give you the opportunity to work in a high profile area, and contribute to vital decisions for Scotland’s energy infrastructure and electricity network. The projects this role holder may work on includes grid infrastructure; onshore wind; solar and storage projects.

ECU is responsible for processing applications for energy infrastructure to be determined by the Scottish Ministers. They often relate to multi-million pound development and infrastructure projects, which make a significant contribution to the Scottish Government’s core purpose of promoting sustainable economic growth and to the delivery of Scottish Government’s climate change targets.

 

The role of the senior case officer is responsible for working as part of the ECU team processing applications for the construction of onshore energy infrastructure that are determined by the Scottish Ministers.  The projects this role holder may work on includes grid infrastructure; onshore wind; solar and storage projects.

Job description

• Proactively manage caseload by processing project applications in line with relevant legislation and drafting recommendations, including determinations, to the ministers, ensuring that risks are accurately identified, analysed and explained within set timescales;
• Develop, support and manage staff within my direct line management, quality assuring written work, applying HR policies consistently, seeking advice and guidance as required, supporting Line Manager to ensure that resources are correctly deployed to deliver outcomes.
• Update and maintain databases for caseloads in a timely manner, and prepare documents for publication in accordance with Scottish Government policies;
• Internal and external stakeholder engagement and management to build and maintain effective working relationships for allocated project to effectively resolve issues and build greater understanding of application specific/ policy issues to reach appropriate outcomes.

1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
2. Able to work proactively, and demonstrate initiative.
3. Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to organise and collate information from a variety of sources to support decision making.
4. Good people skills and experience of developing and maintaining good working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
