We’re seeking an innovative Senior Analyst to lead analytical and modelling workstreams in the financial modelling team, deliver high-quality analysis, enhance and maintain enduring models, and support Ofgem's decision-making.

In this role, your key responsibilities include taking the lead in the development and meticulous maintenance of key Ofgem models. This vital task involves not just ensuring their operational efficiency but also expanding their functionality and enhancing their documentation, all in accordance with industry best practices. You'll be instrumental in responding to analytical questions, necessitating the preparation of comprehensive presentations or detailed briefing notes.

Your role extends to the technical aspects of developing robust data pipelines, repositories, and methods of provisioning data. Alongside this, you will be involved in the creation and implementation of automatic reports, streamlining processes for efficiency and accuracy. Another significant part of your responsibilities is the development of innovative new models that will support and influence policy development across various facets of Ofgem.

As a leader, you'll set a high standard and serve as a role model in both model design and data management. This involves championing best practices and pushing the envelope in terms of quality and innovation. Your role will require close coordination with data and assurance teams, ensuring a cohesive approach to data management and model development within Ofgem. Job description

The financial modelling team develops core models for the RIIO price control including the Price Control Financial Model and models which support the setting and analysis of financial policies, eg cost of capital, depreciation and financeability.  It also supports decision making across the organisation (eg retail, cost assessment) by building or supporting models or data analysis as required.

Person specification

Key Responsibilities  

  • Lead the development and maintenance of key Ofgem models, including expanding their function and documentation in accordance with best practice. 
  • Playing a leading role in answering analytical questions by preparing presentations or briefing notes. 
  • Developing data pipelines, repositories, methods of provisioning data, and automatic reports. 
  • Developing new models to support policy development across Ofgem. 
  • Lead by example and help champion best practice in model design and data management, in coordination with data and assurance teams.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in financial modelling, particularly related to price controls or regulation. (Lead criteria) 
  • Degree level qualification in economics, finance, or another quantitative field or equivalent professional experience. 
  • In-depth understanding of economic or financial concepts such as the cost of capital or RAB based financial models. 
  • Strong technical proficiency in modelling tools, particularly excel, or programming languages and databases. 
  • Proven excellence in ability to process, display, and communicate complex information and data. 

Desirable Criteria

  • Expertise in one or more of: R, Python, VBA or SQL. 
  • Experience with PowerBI or other business intelligence tools.
