We are delighted to advertise this key role at RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset. This important position will be working within the Executive Department where we need a Safety, Health and Environment specialist to join our excellent team! The Health, Safety and Environmental Protection - Occurrence Adviser (HSEP OA) will work within the Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department at RNAS Yeovilton, ensuring compliance of occurrence management systems and relevant registers are maintained. You will be part of a small HSEP Team focussing on coordinating HSEP activities in support of the Head of Establishment’s (HoE) statutory responsibilities. You will be required to provide competent advice and guidance to all station personnel as their proficient person including senior managers and reporting to the associated boards on HSEP occurrence performance.

Job description

As HSEP OA your role will cover all unit areas, therefore this role is varied, including developing strategies, data analysis and corporate reporting to the Management Board and other departmental meetings. High on the agenda, in addition to direct advice and guidance will be support to risk assessment process standards, audits and functional accountability for departmental HSEP representatives through the chair of the working group. We welcome applicants who are members of a professional or governing HSEP body, we also invite applications prepared to gain the appropriate membership/licence.

Person specification

Acting as HSEP OA with delegated authorities to support monitoring and reviewing of accidents, incidents and occurrences to ensure compliance with HoE organisation and arrangements statement. As part of a change programme, help develop a total safety culture utilising ‘functional safety’ and ‘air safety’ methodologies as best practice approach. Act as supporting member of 2nd Party Audit (2PA) team, identifying non-compliance and making recommendations for correction and tracking to completion. Provision of specialist advice on HSEP throughout RNAS Yeovilton as required in accordance with Ministry of Defence (MOD) policy and legislation. Monitoring and updating HSEP guidance in line with evolving governmental statues and MOD policies.

We need this role to develop accident and incident (A&I) occurrence reporting. This will see the HSEP OA managing process for promotion of reporting and closure of all occurrences on station including the identification of trends and recommendations for improvement as required. Ensure data and trend analysis is accurate, timely and provided termly to the reporting forums. This role will support the business in developing organisational safety assessments during change acting as A&I Occurrence Subject Mater Expert (SME). You will assist the department lead in developing strategies for Learning From Experience (LFE), implementing improvement and education plans.

Candidates invited to interview will be asked to conduct a short 10 min presentation on key H&S legislation that is applicable to both the workplace and within an operational environment. The presentation should cover benefits of an embedded Safety, Environmental Management System (SEMS) and how candidate would contribute and enhance safety cultures within the workforce.
