Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual to join the Executive Team at the Royal Navy's largest Air Station in a beautiful and popular part of the country.

The Classified Books Officer (CBO) is responsible for managing the Classified Books and Media which enables Royal Naval Merlin Helicopters to perform full mission functionality. Additional support to the Station Crypto Custodian and maintenance of the cryptographic and secure communications elements of Merlin is also a part of the role. The role works closely with other members of the security department and Merlin Helicopter aircrew supporting them in their operational output.

This is a full time position, advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The CBO is responsible for the accounting and management of Classified Publications that support Merlin Operations. They work closely with publishers, other custodians and stakeholders to ensure that the material is up to date and operationally relevant. Additionally, they must be proficient in managing the cryptographic material account used for secure communications. This role is mainly performed in the absence of their Line Manager, the Crypto Custodian. The CBO works closely with duty personnel, Merlin operators and other members of the security department.

Person specification

The successful applicant needs to be meticulous and self-motivated with good communication skills. It is essential that they are able to work well in a team. The workload varies and on occasion they will be required to perform efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines. There is a high level of responsibility as they have charge of operationally sensitive information which allows the Merlin Helicopters to perform their roles. Good organisational skills and time management is important along with the ability to master new Information Technology systems. 

The post holder is required to attend residential training courses away from Culdrose prior to full proficiency. Currently these total less than two weeks. 

This post requires the incumbent to hold a Developed Vetting Certificate.
