The Appraisals Support Manager role will suit an enthusiastic individual with established or developing leadership and management skills. They will be expected to coach, mentor, support, train and lead a small team to deliver a first-class customer experience that is efficient, effective and responsive at all times. The role will provide office management of the appraisals team, alongside appraisals administration and appraisals training to all personnel (civilian and military) based within HMNB Clyde. They will provide a consistent management presence within the department advising and giving direction to staff whilst supporting face to face and digital training and workshops for afloat units both in and out of the area.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

This role provides a challenging opportunity for someone looking to step into a management role or to further develop their management and leadership skills. You will be managing a small team of staff, overseeing their workload, personal development, training and daily and weekly tasking. There is a strong emphasis on personal development within the department and alongside your own learning journey, you will be expected to nurture and support staff to develop existing skills whilst addressing any skills gaps.

You will run and further develop the appraisals training delivered to both civilian and military personnel. This training is delivered both face to face and within the digital environment so, there is a great opportunity to broaden knowledge around training delivery within both these mediums. Access to training, to support this, is available.

You will have the opportunity to influence future policy around appraisals, at a local level develop further the smooth running of office routines and ensure the delivery of a high-level of customer focused service to personnel attached to HMNB Clyde, noting that this includes personnel based at HMNB Clyde and at a number of remote units.

Person specification

This role will suit an individual who is innovative, organised and able to manage their time effectively. With line management responsibilities, experience in this field is desirable but not essential; with a small team to manage it is an ideal role for someone starting out as a line manager. There is a requirement to work collaboratively and alongside a number of departments who will have other more demanding priorities, and so good communication and negotiation skills will support success. Quality control is a substantial part of the role and so a good command and understanding of grammar and spelling is essential.

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £28,300, Ministry of Defence contributes £7,641 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
