Job summary

The Receipts and Issues Storekeeper is responsible to the Quartermaster (Technical ) for receipting in and issue out of equipment on the charge of the Defence Intelligence Training Group and this included the, accounting process, safe storage and disposal of all the stores.

Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities.  Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Main Objectives 

The successful candidate will be required to complete the follow:

The preparation of all stores/equipment authorised for issue by the Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (Technical) or Senior Storekeeper prior to issue/collection/delivery. All items are to be issued in accordance with the Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) and Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory accounting procedures.

Responsible for the prompt reporting of any surpluses, deficiencies or losses for all items or products as they occur to the Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant (Technical)or Senior Storekeeper as appropriate for investigation, in accordance with the Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) and Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) accounting procedures.

To adhere to the correct and safe application of all storage and handling practices in accordance with 1974 Health and Safety At Work Act, the Management of Health at Work Regulations 1992, Material Regulations and other associated regulations and instructions.

Responsible for the correct application of all Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) and Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI) applicable accounting procedures for the various accounts in accordance with accounting procedures at the level of access allowed as Storekeeper and other applicable regulations and instructions.

Responsible for carrying out checks of stock levels for the accounts in conjunction with the Unit Orderly Officer on a weekly basis or as dictated by Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) and Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI).

Responsible for the documentation of the mandatory monthly checks and periodic inspections required on all items within the Area of Responsibility (AOR) specific to Equipment Care.

Authorised to deal directly with both internal and external agencies within the limits of own authority on matters related to the warehouse function, ensuring that the line manager is kept informed of all matters of policy and where problems cannot be resolved.

Responsible for the issue of Operational Ration Packs to authorised personnel in conjunction with the Material Supply Accountant, ensuring all paperwork is correct in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

Responsible for demanding, receipting and distribution of all stationary across site.

To carry out fire extinguisher maintenance when required to do so.

Carry out any other tasks commensurate with the grade, as requested by the line management.

Applicants will be expected to have the:

  • Ability to work well with others in a supportive and constructive way.
  • A Level of Stores knowledge/experience/inventory management however training will be provided.
  • Strong organisational skills
  • A good level of IT skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
