Job summary

This position is one of two civil servant Boat Maintainers working within a team of 6 military Marine Engineers at Hamworthy Barracks, Poole.  This role is critical to sustaining Hamworthy Barracks Very High Readiness posture enabling its amphibious capability for both training and operations overseas.  The successful applicant will take their place as a Boat Maintainer within the boat store at Hamworthy Barracks, responsible for the maintenance and servicing of the Unit’s tactical watercraft.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The Boat Maintainers play a vital role in maintaining the tactical watercraft at Hamworthy Barracks and associated equipment required for both operational and training tasks when operating in an amphibious environment.

 The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Consistently make the most out of all resources at your disposal (including your own time) looking for opportunities to create efficiencies and make improvements for defence, pursuing them energetically.
  • Consistently ensure that all actions concerning the equipment within the Boat Store (this includes receipt/issue and maintenance) is carried out in accordance with CoC direction and guidance and current regulations. Make sure that all records pertaining to the boats and equipment are kept up to date and ready for inspection as required by CoC.
  • Consistently improve a working knowledge of all current regulations required for working in the Boat Store to make sure that all actions are carried out to the required standard and within current guidelines
  • Anticipate and order any components and equipment required to keep the Boat Store fully operationally, supporting staff in dealing with any emergency as required
  • Consistently carry out regular musters as produced by the accounting system (MJDI), ensuring that all irregularities are highlighted and corrected in accordance with CoC direction and guidance.
  • Ensure deployed equipment is accompanied by all documentation required by legislation and is completed by users in accordance with direction and guidance.
  • Complete and remain in-date for all mandatory training, as defined by the MoD and the Unit.

Person specification

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is:

Capable of working both independently and as part of a team, in a Military and Civilian working environment.

  • Prepared to undertake relevant training as required, in order to maintain required skill levels and remain current.
  • Willing to deploy for short periods in support of Unit training and Exercise serials.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

 Essential:

Inflatable Boat Maintainer Cse (can be taken in post).

 Desirable:

Relevant experience in maritime engineering support

Forklift Operator

Additional Lifting Equipment Examiner ADLEE.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
