Job summary

We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual to join our team to programme manage DCMS’ public appointments processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive engagement with Public Appointments across the department, and build effective governance structures that streamline coordination with Senior Civil Servants (SCS), Ministers and No.10.

This is a high profile and fast paced role that will require excellent organisation and communication skills, and give the post holder an opportunity to develop their strategic project, programme and stakeholder management skills.

As such, the work of the team is high profile and requires effective engagement with Ministers, Senior Officials, Non-Executive members of the Board, Cabinet Office and No10. This role will be vital for ensuring that DCMS runs an efficient, effective public appointments process, evolving as necessary to meet Minister and Departmental expectations, and can stand up to external scrutiny including the annual Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) audit.

Job description

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the regular timetable of SCS, Ministerial, Special Adviser and No10 meetings and briefings and responses to cross government commissions and ad hoc requests from Ministers, No10 or senior officials;
  • Continuous reviews of internal processes, implementing improvements in line with Cabinet Office, DCMS & Minister expectations and ensuring DCMS is considered best in class;
  • Leading on external comms, including coordinating team responses to Freedom Of Information requests and press enquiries and also overseeing team’s use of the Cabinet Office Public Appointments website and;
  • Overseeing the team’s broader compliance with the Governance Code and Cabinet Office expectations, including record keeping, data management and leading on the annual OCPA Audit.

Person specification

Essential Requirements:

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to develop and manage processes in order to maintain a high quality service to stakeholders and provide support to a fast-paced team; 
  • Ability to plan, organise and manage competing priorities and deliver them at pace and to a high standard;
  • Ability to work flexibly and overcome challenges, often under considerable time pressure and; 
  • Highly effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others across the team, and the wider department, to coordinate cross-team pieces of work e.g. briefings, audit, risk, performance tracking etc.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of working in public appointments or working with public bodies;
  • Project management experience and / or qualifications
