Job description

We are seeking two project managers to help drive the delivery to meet government's ambitions for offshore wind.

This role is in an exciting and rapidly growing area, establishing government’s strategy to increase our offshore wind deployment. You will help to shape the strategy and work programmes needed to deliver our offshore wind and floating offshore wind ambitions.

You will be working as part of a new team leading on work to coordinate the delivery of the offshore wind and networks element of the recently announced Green Investment Growth Accelerator (GIGA) project. Up to £960m was allocated in the 2023 Autumn Statement to establish GIGA. Investment through GIGA will support the expansion of strong, home-grown, clean energy supply chains across the UK, including carbon capture, utilisation and storage, electricity networks, hydrogen, nuclear and offshore wind. This will enable the UK to seize growth opportunities through the transition to net zero, building on our world-leading decarbonisation track record and strong deployment offer.

You will form part of a growing Offshore Wind Team in the Renewable Electricity Directorate, working on the front line of delivering the UK's Net Zero ambitions, working in exciting and high priority areas. The project management team is currently being set-up with a Grade 7 lead and these two SEO project management roles.

The role will be shaped by the successful applicant and you will be expected to work flexibly across the team carrying out project management functions where support is needed to support the design and delivery of the GIGA Project.

Key Responsibilities could include:

- The coordination and development of the business case for a new offshore wind and networks GIGA scheme.

- Create and lead the project to deliver the agreed outcomes within time, cost and quality constraints.

- Day to day management and leadership of the project. Set project controls. Design the project structure appropriate to stage. Select and apply appropriate delivery methodologies.

- Build Project Plan and apply appropriate project principles to deliver stated objectives. Identify and set appropriate Project Controls. Track and report delivery against milestones.

- Ensure benefits are identified, understood, measured, tracked and owned. Ensure appropriate Benefits Realisation Strategy is in place, and monitor longer term delivery of benefits against the Business Case.

- Provide key reports and support effective governance and decision making.

- Identify and monitor project risks and issues. Develop mitigating actions and escalate as appropriate.

- Wider support for establishing and managing the governance framework and project and programme management tools for the wider offshore wind deployment requirements.

Skills and experience

Essential

- Have experience of applying project management methodologies and tools to policy development and implementation.

- Are self-motivated and highly organised, with an ability to prioritise and manage workload effectively. Ability to work autonomously and lead specific pieces of work. 

- Have an eye for detail, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to grapple with complex issues.

- Have interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and strong written and oral communication skills.

- Have experience working at pace, both collaboratively and autonomously, to own the delivery of challenging workstreams.

Desirable

We will help you achieve a relevant qualification in post if you do not have one. However, it would be an advantage if you have a recognised accreditation in professional project management such as:

- PRINCE2 Practitioner.

- Agile Project Management Practitioner.

- APM Project Management Qualification.

- PMI Project Management Professional.

- Leading and Managing Project Workstreams.
