Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with a Director and Senior Leadership Team in the Project Delivery and Major Events Directorate as a Business Manager.

The successful candidate will manage the operational function across the directorate and provide day-to-day support for the Director.

The Business Manager will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and business partners to ensure the directorate’s operational function is well managed. They will also provide diary and inbox management for the Director, and ensure he has all the information needed to prepare for meetings. 

Job description

The Project Delivery and Major Events directorate is a newly-formed directorate within DCMS. This exciting new directorate is led by the Director, Jonathan Martin, who is supported by four Deputy Directors. The Deputy Directors are responsible for the following fast-paced, delivery-focussed divisions which are:

  • Public Inquiry & Incident Response
  • Projects, Delivery & Blythe House
  • Ceremonials
  • Commemorative Events

These divisions deliver on a wide range of policy areas, such as the Covid-19 Inquiry, Remembrance Sunday, and Covid-19 Commemoration. Now is a great time to join the new directorate; you will play a key role in bringing together the four divisions and helping to create a positive and energetic culture for the new team.  

This is an interesting and wide-ranging role, where you will be expected to be flexible to support the Senior Leadership Team and the wider directorate. The role offers the opportunity for significant interaction with senior leaders and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience of managing a varied workload, prioritising effectively, and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong IT skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with high attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver at pace, experience of managing a varied workload, ability to prioritise effectively, and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Proactive and able to look ahead to anticipate issues
  • Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with people at all levels across an organisation

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience of managing a complex, ever-changing diary for a senior manager
  • Experience of minute taking
