Job description

The Department for Science, Innovation & Technology is the department for digital and we are driving an ambitious digital agenda to make Britain the most connected, tech friendly, innovation-driven, digital skilled and cyber-secure country in the world.  Our work on cyber security is high profile and attracts significant attention from the highest levels of government and industry.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised individual to join our programme delivery team in a key role. We deliver a varied and interesting portfolio of projects under the National Cyber Security Programme, focused on improving cyber skills in the UK and supporting the UK's cyber sector to grow. You should have an interest in and experience of programme management and be able to demonstrate:  strong communication skills, experience of stakeholder management and an aptitude for the financial aspects of programme delivery.

You will be joining a dynamic, enthusiastic team and will have many and varied opportunities to expand your networks, develop your skills, learn about cyber security and play a part in shaping how we delivering on the ambitions set out in the National Cyber Security Strategy.

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with delivery partners and ensuring clear and frequent communications in both directions.
  • Taking ownership of key project documentation and ensuring accurate financial forecasting and budgeting.
  • Collaborating across teams and HMG departments on a range of issues, including influencing colleagues to achieve outcomes that support our delivery objectives.
  • Establishing robust reporting, monitoring and governance arrangements for projects.
  • Challenging implementing partners on key aspects of delivery, such as finance and progress against KPIs, to maximise value for money for the UK taxpayer.

    • The ability to establish and develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, bringing people and resources together to benefit a project.
    • Strong communication skills; the ability to articulate complex issues in a clear and concise way.
    • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise effectively to manage your workload well under pressure.
    • Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.

    Desirable skills

    • Demonstrable experience and/or qualifications in programme management.

    You don't need to be an expert in cyber security or programme management on day 1 but enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and develop your skills and understanding is a must.
