Job description

The UK Government is committed to protecting and enhancing our natural capital, halting the decline in our biodiversity, adapting to, and mitigating against climate change, and leaving the environment in a better state for future generations. As part of this commitment, Defra’s £140 million Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) programme is delivering a nationwide survey of England’s land, coast, and sea: mapping the location, extent and condition of our ecosystems and the benefits they provide.

This role will be responsible for supporting the NCEA Programme Manager in delivering the FR elements of the Defra backed Terrestrial (t)NCEA Programme and associated projects. This is a large programme, totalling £4.9 million per annum, where all forest and woodland ecosystem types are being monitored to enable the production of a set of Natural Capital Accounts and a broad environmental evidence base for all English ecosystems. The Programme Lead will support the Programme Manager to build and share the vision, strategy and plans for delivering Woodland and Tree NCEA. Our preferred start date for this post is 19th August 2024.

Key Work Areas:

•    Monitor, evaluate and coordinate a range of projects across the NCEA programme
•    Track project deliverables and milestones, ensuring that they are on time and budget and report this information to Defra
•    Monitor performance across the NCEA programme, manage risks and issues when they occur
•    Lead the science quality assurance and digital data delivery products
•    Support and develop contacts and communication both internally and externally
•    Represent FR on a range of programme boards, working groups and external events.
