Job description

We are looking for 2 product management professionals who are both leaders and team players. The ability to collaborate and converse with colleagues within and outside your teams on a level that builds trust and respect is essential.  You must be willing to learn but bring experience and a willingness to challenge. We have 1 permanent full-time role and 1 fixed term contract until 30th September 2026. Please specify which role you are applying for via the question in the application form.

Planning Inspectorate product managers reach and influence outside of Digital and Data division, working with civil servants, public and private sector stakeholders to deliver value and customer-focussed outcomes.  While you will sit within digital and data, you will be in constant engagement across the business, understanding user needs and interpreting them to design, lead and manage products and services for internal and external customers.

Office Attendance

These roles are contractually based at Temple Quay House, Bristol which is currently out of use due to undergoing refurbishment work. In the interim, we have the use of alternative office space in very close proximity to Bristol Temple Meads railway station. We recognise and value the mutual benefits of hybrid working and have a flexible approach to in person attendance, which can vary dependent on the requirements of individual business units - the details of which can be discussed with candidates if invited to attend an interview.

Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of leading technical specialists in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Stakeholder management skills including engaging and influencing senior management and managing third party suppliers or consultants.
  • Ability to understand complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
  • Experience of building a product roadmap, prioritising a product backlog running a product through its lifecycle, and translating user needs into deliverables.
  • Experience of a continuous improvement and agile environment focusing on user needs.

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification
  • Able to secure funding for agile delivery through a business case and through delivering a good pitch.
  • Able to understand and work within the given constraints (including but not limited to technology, policy, regulatory, financial, legal, social user constraints) and to challenge constraints that can be changed.
