Job summary

As a Product Manager, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team delivering products and services across Homes England and will work with the wider business to help define their problems to ensure we develop solutions that meet the business needs and those of our users.

You will be responsible for leading products through the various lifecycle stages following GDS standards & principles. Working with business colleagues, you will use your understanding of business and user needs to produce and maintain a product strategy, and set priorities for the delivery team.

You will work alongside operational delivery teams in digital, data and technology to ensure that the ongoing management and support of products/services are effectively implemented.

Proficient in working as a Product Manager you will have demonstrable experience of delivering user centred digital services and products, and have specialist skills and knowledge of product management techniques. 

You’ll have the knowledge of how to apply tools and concepts in a variety of ways and have the ability to adapt to change, using new methods of working where appropriate. You will be able to identify and compare processes or delivery methods to apply, and assist the team in deciding on the best approach.

You will be capable of building business cases based on user needs that enable decisions to be made on a commercial basis, ensuring the most appropriate solutions are chosen within the constraints we have. By linking activity back to the business case, you will ensure that agreed outcomes are achieved producing the expected value for the organisation.

As an experienced Product Manager you will understand the product life cycle and how to design operational processes for the running and maintenance of products or services throughout their life cycle.

Person specification

  • You have experience of working as a product manager delivering user centred digital services/products, through which you have gained skills in product ownership and the ability to contextualise problems and their potential solutions within the wider needs of the organisation.
  • You know how to apply tools and concepts in a variety of ways and adapt to change, using new ways of working where appropriate. This allows you to identify and compare processes or delivery methods to use, to help the team to decide on the best approach.
  • You have experience of collaborating with user researchers and understand the importance of user research in identifying and prioritising the needs to be met, and you understand the variety and complexity of users’ digital needs and how products can meet these.
  • You can build business cases based on user needs that enable decisions to be made on a commercial basis, ensuring the correct solutions are chosen that can be delivered within the constraints we have. By linking activity back to the business case, you ensure agreed outcomes are achieved producing the expected value for the organisation.
  • You understand new and emerging digital technologies and the opportunities they provide to improve the delivery of public services in the UK and have an awareness of Government Digital standards and how these enable us to build better services.
  • You understand the product life cycle and how to design operational processes for the running and maintenance of products or services throughout their product life cycle.
  • You have the ability to understand the wider context within which Homes England works and develop strategies appropriately
  • You have the ability to understand the perspectives of others in order to be able to bring a wide range of views to inform solutions
  • You have the ability to build networks and use relationships with others to manage change
