Job description

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about product and user centricity, and who is driven to design and build the right thing for the end user.

You will be responsible for making evidence based strategic and tactical product decisions and making key priority calls.

Digital Workspaces provides technical infrastructure, used directly by DWP colleagues and citizens, and by other Digital services.

It does this through seven main Product areas.

There are however several discrete, complex, and often security related products and processes that either operate across these product areas or are in early development.

Some of these have significant operational impact, and need to be owned to ensure they are secure, that processes exist to operate them effectively, that they have excellent user interactions and that there are clear evolutionary benefits and a product roadmap.

You will work closely with the existing Digital infrastructure team, other parts of DWP, and occasionally with external suppliers.

 The role involves:

  • Owning the roadmap and strategy for discrete products and sub-products within the digital workplace, working across Workspaces teams to ensure there is a coherent overarching design and operational process.
  • Apply product principles to remediate, operationalise, and optimise, processes and sub-products in the Workspaces area.
  • Work closely with other teams and experts to ensure alignment. Follow policy intent but be prepared to negotiate when change is appropriate.
  • Develop the future vision and roadmap to maximise return on investment.
  • Ensure security is paramount in your decision making to protect against external or internal threats.

Person specification

As part of the application process you will be expected to align your application to the Essential Criteria below:

  • Experience working within a secure technical infrastructure environment and with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of identifying complex end user needs and translating those into technology and business solutions.
  • Knowledge of end user technology and the broad principles associated with Desktop, Access, Identity, and virtualisation.
  • Experience of making effective choices based on incomplete information using a range of suitable techniques.
  • Have worked across department or functional boundaries to effectively communicate your vision and gain stakeholder buy in
  • Experience in developing a roadmap and gaining buy-in so benefits are realised.

If you would like to learn more about the role, please contact isaac.morrison@dwp.gov.uk.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home.  This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
