    Job description

    HOW WILL I SPEND MY TIME  

    As a Power BI Team Leader you will be responsible for managing the first- and second-line technical support for initially the Power BI applications. This will move to other MS Power Apps as they get delivered. You will be responsible for ensuring support for existing and emerging information and communications technology (ICT) services, including providing technical advice to project teams.  

    You will be expected to establish user connections within the company and manage a range of diverse service demands. You will lead your team in Agile and Lean methods, choosing the best strategy for the team or the project. 

    Your main responsibilities will include:  

    • Track, log and correct information to protect assets and components. 
    • Identify process optimisation opportunities with guidance and contribute to the implementation of proposed solutions.  
    • Translate ‘lessons learnt’ from complaint cycles into continual service improvement. 
    • Take responsibility for the full range of customer service functions, including reviewing customer service satisfaction.  
    • Investigate which processes can be automated and the ways to do so.  
    • Take accountability for issues that occur and be proactive in searching for potential problems.  
    • Achieve excellent user outcomes. 
    • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems.  
    • Effectively consult specialists where required. 
    • Determine the appropriate remedy and assist with its implementation. Determine preventative measures. 
    • Take inputs and establish coherent frameworks that work. 
    • You have a Level 3 service management framework qualification.  
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the life cycle or capability elements of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library).  
    • Use your data analytics skills to enhance business performance.  
    • Understand the core technical concepts related to the role and apply them with guidance.  
    • Collaborate with user researchers and can represent users internally. 
    • Explain the difference between user needs and the desires of the user. 
    • Champion user research to focus on all users.  
    • Prioritise and define approaches to understand the user story, guiding others in doing so.  
    • Offer recommendations on the best tools and methods to use. 

    WHAT IMPACT WILL I HAVE? 

    Over a successful year you grow to be a fundamental part of the team. You will learn how to support the Power BI service within SCOTS. You will also have built up a range of contacts and relationships across ITECs. You will develop knowledge of the SCOTs network over the year. You will have successfully managed the service desk for Power BI finding solutions for colleagues.

    As the team are on the forefront of enabling change there is opportunity to develop existing skills and knowledge and gain new ones. This team will be providing support to the roll out of potentially widely adopted software. There are real potentials to become familiar with this technology and support a wide range of colleagues across SG (Scottish Government) in adopting them. This will put you in a great place to use the skills you have developed within ITECs or in other areas of SG.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA  

    1. Identifying and ensuring preparedness for potential issues. 
    2. Strong operational and technical understanding of organisational IT policies and systems.  
    3. Responsible for the resourcing and development of the team, including the preparation and co-ordination of service transition activities.  
    4. Demonstrable skills of managing a team who provides first- and second-line technical support.

    • £5000 Digital (DDaT) Pay Supplement after a 3-month qualifying period ***

    • Flexible working arrangements including compressed hours and flexi time, with potential to accrue up to 4 days off a month. 
    • 36.5 Days Annual Leave - including public and privilege holidays.  This increases to 41.5 days after 4-year service.   

    *** Digital (DDaT) Pay Supplement: 

    This post attracts a £5000 DDAT pay supplement after a 3 months DDaT competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments and are subject to regular review.

    REMOTE WORKING  

    We operate a flexible location policy, with a contractual named base in Scotland of either Atlantic Quay (Glasgow) or Saughton House (Edinburgh).   

    Currently the team is working on a hybrid basis typically spending one day a week at their office. If preferred, you can of course spend more time working at the base office (or an alternative Scottish Government office subject to availability). Please discuss preferences with line manager about balance of home/office working as there is flexibility. Commuting costs to the named base office are not reimbursed.   

    While Staff are assigned to the base offices, there may be a need for travel to other Scottish Government offices/other locations depending on assigned work.
