The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a small government department with a big mission: to keep food safe, ensure that it is what it says it is, and that it is increasingly healthy and more sustainable. Our Legislative Strategy team works to develop a range of approaches that help us manage food safety risks. We are looking for a Policy Manager who will help us to meet our goals in relation to import and exports policy and delivery and trade implementation. This important area of our work covers a significant amount of the food consumed in the UK, and everything we export overseas. Your work will have a significant and direct impact on consumers everywhere. |
Job description
Collaboration will play a key role in your success. Whether you’re building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the FSA and wider government or working closely with colleagues within our organisation to develop policy that will make a real difference, you will need to be skilled at bringing people together to deliver key work. You will lead on FSA Imports, Exports and Trade Policy Advice workstreams in Wales and will work to ensure the country’s interests are represented in the development of new policy. You’ll also be responsible for the preparing replies to ministers and Welsh stakeholders, offering you a chance to deliver key messaging in impactful spaces. Application and shortlisting You will be asked to provide personal details (not seen by the Panel) and to confirm your eligibility to apply for the role. Essential criteria Experience · Lead criteria: Experience of working within a policy or regulatory environment (or similar) · Proven ability to use strong analytical skills to weigh up different sources of information to underpin policy development. · Briefing senior stakeholders such as Ministers, Boards or Executive Management teams, both verbally and in writing.
· A proven ability to work autonomously and lead on own work areas.
· Successful experience of building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve corporate priorities.
Desirable criteria (Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie between candidates). Experience · The ability to communicate effectively in Welsh to strengthen the Agency’s commitment to providing a bilingual service across all teams.
Lead Criteria An initial sift may take place on just the identified Lead Criteria indicated.
