Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen as part of the Stakeholder Engagement, International and Briefing (SEIB) team in the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV).

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is a team working across government to support the transition to zero emission vehicles (ZEVs). We are providing support for the take-up of plug in vehicles, as well as funding to support chargepoint infrastructure across the UK. This will contribute to economic growth and will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution on our roads.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience of policy making, stakeholder engagement and the regulatory landscape in OZEV. The post holder will have a responsibility for drafting correspondence to stakeholders including industry leaders, MPs and members of the public,  to assist on the development and implementation of cross-cutting policies in OZEV.

This role will suit somebody with excellent organisational and communication skills who is able to work autonomously and collaboratively with others.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Draft replies to correspondence related to OZEV and create high-quality briefs to support senior colleagues (including Ministers) at events.
  • Be at the front line of the department’s interaction with the general public, playing a key role in getting our message across to road users, taxpayers and other important stakeholders.
  • Develop your own skillset to provide flexible cover and support to the correspondence team and the wider team as required and be prepared to take on high priority tasks when requested by a manager.
  • Manage and maintain a positive, professional and trusting working relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Person specification

About you:

  • You will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt messages effectively to different audiences.
  • You will be required to translate complex policy into plain English which is clear, easy to understand and effective to audience needs.
  • You will have proficient use of Microsoft Office packages, e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, TEAMS and OneNote, enabling you to complete work to a high standard.
  • You will be confident in developing positive relationships with senior colleagues.

Additional Information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance. 

There may be occasions where you will be required to travel to other DfT offices and attend meetings and visits around the UK.

Selection process details

Your Personal Statement will be limited to 500 words. Each behaviour example will be limited to 250 words.
