Job description

We look forward to reading your application for the role of Policing Standards Manager – Continuous Improvement.

The selected candidate will provide professional leadership, direction and vision, directly connecting with police forces and national policing organisations. Contribute to improving knowledge and practice across the College and within policing in relation to specific areas of specialism and subject matter expertise, including forecasting and anticipating future demand.

The PSM is currently involved in a number of critical projects and workstreams that are an essential part of the College’s business plan.  

These include:
•    Delivery of national work on strategic workforce planning, IPP and performance management support to forces.
•    The adoption of a national strategic workforce planning Continuous Improvement Maturity Matrix with Force and NPCC stakeholders
•    Working proactively with forces to problem solve and share practice at an early stage to drive up quality and compliance relating to initial entry, high risk policing, performance improvement.
•    Providing improvement support to assist policing to achieve the objectives of the continuous improvement strand of the NPCC and College National Policing Vision 2030.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

•    Building and retaining credibility internally and externally on current and emerging issues within the subject area and associated application of guidance, policy and standards.
•    leading teams to ensure innovative delivery of national products for guidance, changes to legislation, knowledge sharing, sharing of best practice and operational advice.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:
•    A Level 6 qualification in the subject matter or extensive equivalent experience.
•    Subject matter expertise relative to delivery within the portfolios e.g., continuous improvement, leading transformation
•    Proven experience of problem-solving and using an evidence-based approach to develop and establish standards for professional practice
•    Ability to effectively challenge, influence, engage and inspire others, including more senior colleagues and stakeholders, to ensure the right outcome is achieved
•    Skilled at creating and leading high performing teams, working collaboratively and flexibly across a complex matrix environment

It is anticipated that interviews will be held via Microsoft Teams on 21 December.

This is a designated homeworking role and will require regular travel to all College of Policing sites, UK police forces and external organisations with occasional out of hours working.

This is a permanent role or a 24 month secondment opportunity available to:

•    colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.

•    serving police officers substantive in the rank of Superintendent, or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Chief Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.

•    serving police staff at the equivalent rank of Superintendent who have their chief officer's approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application.
