Job summary

We are looking for a Payroll Supervisor to join our Finance Office at House of Lords. You will be responsible for supervising the monthly payroll and ensuring all payroll processes are executed appropriately and House of Lords staff are paid in a timely and accurate manner.

This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis where you may be able to work up to 2 days from home and 3 days onsite at Parliament! This is an exciting opportunity for someone with previous experience of working in a payroll environment with an understanding of Finance and HR cycles. Job description

You’ll be accountable for/to:

  • Processing of the monthly payroll for over 700 staff.
  • Input and maintenance of computerised payroll system (Zellis Resourcelink).
  • Acting as the main point of contact for payroll and ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the section on a day to day basis.
  • Run and create monthly RTI reports and submit them. To complete and file annual returns such as PSAs and P11D’s to HMRC and pay the HMRC and other third parties accurately and on time. Reconciling the monthly control accounts.
  • Ensure that all enquiries or queries are dealt with in a timely manner. Act as the escalation point to resolve more complex payroll queries or issues referred by the Payroll Officer.

Person specification

What we’re looking for:

  • Ability to run the payroll from start to finish, including starters, leavers, parental leave, statutory and voluntary deductions including manual calculation of various items on a payslip.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation for example, tax, national insurance, SMP/SPP etc.
  • An understanding of auto enrolment and workplace pensions.
  • Good IS/IT skills including knowledge and experience of an electronic payroll system, Microsoft Office and a strong commitment to the use of IT.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to discuss and clarify the issues around pay. This requires a high level of telephone, correspondence and personal contact skills.
  • Tact, discretion and the ability to work quickly under pressure maintaining a high level of accuracy and detail.

It would be even better if you had or if you’re willing to learn…

  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills;
  • The ability to master and develop new concepts quickly;
  • Having an awareness of new legislation and procedures and to introduce these changes into the Payroll Department where relevant.
  • Payroll qualification such as CIPP.
  • Experience of Resourcelink or iTrent payroll system.
