Organisation Details 

This is an exciting time to join the MMO as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment.

Accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining training material within the MMO’s bespoke Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Ensuring technical training material is aligned with requirements identified in the Operations Training Team’s Training Matrix
  • Working with other teams to identify their training needs
  • Developing high quality innovative training content to explain often complex regulatory material
  • Delivering training in multiple formats to operational staff and external organisations as required and to a high standard
  • Ensuring that training delivery is aligned with training requirements and that Operations staff receive all of the training they need to perform their roles. This will involve working with Team Leaders to find out what the training needs of their teams are.
  • Mentoring new entrant enforcement officers through their training, development and assessment and carry out Quality Assurance throughout
  • Supporting the MMO’s Marine Enforcement Officer Accredited Qualification process through the provision of technical training and assessment

Key knowledge and skills for the role

Essential

  • Experience of working in a Training, Teaching or Coaching role, or working in an environment that involves training delivery
  • Excellent communication skills – An ability to communicate complex regulations and procedures to a variety of audiences in different formats, in particular through verbal presentation.
  • Strong IT capability to quickly get up to speed with MMO databases, and to support development of online training material on the MMO’s Learning Management System and SharePoint 365 sites
  • Ability to effectively manage own time and prioritise tasks
  • Capability to translate complex regulations into effective and engaging training material
  • Flexible working hours and ability to travel within the UK and occasionally travel abroad
  • Full clean driving licence

Desirable

  • Some knowledge of the marine environment, fisheries management and fisheries legislation
  • A warranted Marine Enforcement Officer (MEO) capable of undertaking the full range of enforcement duties
  • Experience conducting vocational based assessments
  • Previous experience with developing e-learning packages
  • Previous experience of conducting Quality Assurance within a working environment
  • Availability to work offshore for periods of 2 weeks (infrequently)
