Job summary

We are looking for an Office Administrator to join our Legislation Office at the House of Lords. This is a position where you will get exposure to several different types of legislation including public bills, secondary legislation, and private and hybrid legislation. You will be providing a range of administrative support across these different areas, as well as assisting Counsel (Senior Lawyers).

This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis where you will be able to work 2 days from home and 3 days onsite at Parliament! This is an exciting opportunity for someone that likes a fast-paced customer-facing environment and enjoys having variety within their work tasks.

Job description

You’ll be accountable for

  • Supporting Counsel by monitoring and/or drafting emails, updating spreadsheets to track secondary legislation, printing and maintaining files.
  • Resource Management including updating the office asset register, ordering and monitoring stationary, processing invoices and ensuring printers and other equipment is in order.
  • Collecting and distributing daily business papers and other publications.
  • Supporting the wider office including completing administrative tasks for the Public Bills Office and Legislation Office Committees as required.

Person specification

What we’re looking for

  • A minimum of English and Maths GCSE at grades A to C, or equivalent.
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Ability to deliver good customer service to a range of stakeholders.
  • A high standard of ability in written English and basic numeracy, including accuracy and the ability to draft formal email responses.
  • Ability to work in a large team with competing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively to deadlines and maintain reliability under pressure.
  • Understanding of using Microsoft 365, particularly Outlook, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.

It would be even better if you had or if you’re willing to learn…

  • An interest in Parliament and current affairs.
