Are you looking for a change that is stimulating and rewarding! The Nuclear Department within Navy Command, has an important role in providing education and training ranging from introductory to postgraduate level to Service and MOD Civilian personnel, in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme as well as bespoke courses for the wider nuclear industry.
Our multidisciplinary team consists of specialists in materials, physics, chemistry and thermal hydraulics related to nuclear power applications.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
You will play a key role in educating and training personnel involved in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program in Chemistry.Person specification
Deliver lectures, tutorials and research project design up to RFQ Level 7 (Masters Level). Design, develop and assess courses in:
- The chemical and radio-chemical principles that govern operational plant chemistry and shutdown plant chemistry for the safe operation of nuclear plant
- Specific chemical parameters and how they influence plant behaviour and corrosion control
- Radiation protection principles when dealing with radioactivity and specifically with unsealed radioactive sources
- Handling separation and analysis of radio-chemical samples, radionuclide sources and out of core radiation build up
- Primary circuit decontamination and chemical behaviour of waste arising
- Shipboard and dockyard chemical analyses
- Water purification systems
You will also:
- Design, supervise and assess student projects
- Undertake Course Manager duties
- Maintain, develop and manage codes and software
- Operate and manage specialist equipment
- Attend working groups and represent the department at conferences and working groups
- Ensure continued professional development in area of specialist knowledge

Applicants invited to interview will need to demonstrate their technical expertise and must give a ten-minute presentation. The presentation should be technical and in an area of Chemistry.
