Job summary

The Director Navy Acquisition (DNA) organisation is the Navy’s centre of expertise for leading the delivery of major acquisition programmes. Programmes in our Portfolio are grouped into Programme Management Offices (PMO) according to the capability being delivered: Ships Acquisition, Support Shipping Acquisition, Equipment & Systems Acquisition, Future Support Acquisition, Future Commando Force and Defence Marine Services (Next Generation).
Each programme is led through its delivery phase by a dedicated core programme team. Supporting the programmes are a P3M Team (with specialists in Risk, Schedules, Benefits, Finance, Communications, Acceptance and Governance), and an Acquisition Portfolio Team (covering Portfolio Definition, Assurance and Governance).

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in a cross-Defence Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance programme of strategic importance where you will work with key international partners both in the UK and abroad. You will be part of a small team that has direct responsibility for delivering a significant contribution to future Navy and Defence capability. Drawing on your strengths as an independent thinker with proven leadership ability and a reputation for professional excellence, you will be empowered by the Senior Responsible Owner to drive the delivery of this Category A programme.

 Specifically, this role will lead, coordinate, and assure delivery of the Programme; you will be accountable to the Senior Responsible Owner and deputise as and when required.

 Main responsibilities will include:

1. Assuring delivery of the programme to Performance, Cost, Time, and Risk to meet the Governmental mandate.
2. Managing programme costing, risk, schedule, and stakeholder integration, ensuring processes are in place in each area to support effective decision making.
3. Provide leadership and management of programme issues and dependencies.
4. Co-ordinate the provision of business cases, evidence, and assurance to meet the required approvals strategy engaging with MOD scrutiny, Investment Approvals Committee and HM Treasury as required.
5. Lead stakeholder engagement across the MOD and wider Government community.
6. Lead external programme reviews and engagement to ensure timely assurance of the programme at key decision points.

Person specification

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate evidence of personal delivery in the following areas:

•                  Programme Management & Leadership

•                  Risk, Issue & Opportunity management within a programme management role

•                  Stakeholder management and influence within a programme management role

•                  Management and handling of sensitive and/or classified information



The successful candidate will ideally hold relevant professional qualifications and be a member of a relevant professional body – e.g. APM.
