Job summary

His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde (HMNB Clyde) is home to the United Kingdom’s Strategic Nuclear Deterrent, Astute Class Attack Submarines, Sandown Class Mine Hunter Vessels and 43 Commando Royal Marines. It is an operational support and maintenance Naval Base within Navy Command and comprises both Faslane and Coulport sites. Its primary purpose is to provide engineering and logistical support to the Royal Navy in maintaining Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD). 

Based with HMNB Clyde, Fleet Operational Standards and Training (Submarines) (FOST SM) is charged with the corporate governance of the submarine training.   

The role of the FOST SM TMT Quality Control Assistant (FOST SM TMT QCA) is primarily to provide administrative support to the Internal Validation of Collective Training (CT) to the FOST SM organisation. They will administer the records and databases connected with CT and its assurance. The post is a Civilian AO grade. 

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. 

Job description

  • Administering the Internal Validation of sea and shore Collective Training within FOST SM, including the conduct of follow-up and post training discussions with crews. 
  • Administering the TMT SharePoint site to ensure efficient organisation and proper recording of all feedback reports and record management in line with JSP 441. 
  • Conducting assurance checks of FOST SM Shore Training Facility examinations and manage records of the same. 
  • Providing administrative and secretarial support to maintain the standards of TMT training documentation. 
  • Coordinate and collate information regarding Training Assurance Visits (TAV’s) to ensure that Training Providers meet governance criteria. 
  • Attend meetings and briefings recording minutes and distributing to the TMT.

Person specification

The post holder will have the exciting opportunity to join the Fleet Operational Standards and Training organisation, within the Training Management Team. As part of Transformation, the RN is modernising its Individual Training and Collective Training whilst ships/submarines are deployed. There will be much activity in the short term such as the Future Submarine Training Centre being built and operating in the base, to new training facilities for the next class of submarine coming into service. The assurance of this training is paramount to achieving its quality. 
 
The successful applicant will require good communication skills, strong MS Office knowledge, be proactive, self-motivated, able to work cohesively with members of the wider FOST SM department to deliver assurance of training.
