Job summary

To facilitate the effective use of HOLMES functions to support major inquires in accordance with Major Incident Room Standardised Administrative Procedures (MIRSAP).

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Job description

An exciting and rewarding role within the Major Incident Room, responsible for shaping and maintain HOLMES, cohesively working to support policing operations, acting as an important team member to ensuring a successful outcome. An exciting and highly rewarding role to support major inquires in accordance with Major Incident Room Standardised Administrative Procedures (MIRSAP).

To create operational success in support of Defence, the HOLMES system must be developed, supported and maintained. The HOLMES Manager is a critical role and trusted to maintain the system, troubleshooting and quickly resolving any problems. An agile mind and effective communication are needed. Liaison with Senior Investigating Officers is a lynch pin of the role, engaging with key partners and being adaptable to the needs of the investigation team who could be deployed anywhere in the world.

Innovation and empowerment are strongly supported, the ability to try new IT solutions, to enhance current working practices to make goo, better. Discovering new ways of working and engaging with Home Office Police Forces to understand what good looks like in other Police Forces. An in-depth knowledge of HOLMES is key to be able to support the team in achieving the team goal. The HOLMES Manger will be required to support the team fulfilling other roles in the MIR, sometimes at short notice, this variety makes the job engaging and an exciting challenge.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Person specification

As HOLMES Manager you will be responsible for:

  1. Set up, maintain and develop the HOLMES system in support of the investigation.
  2. Create HOLMES accounts for users.
  3. Be a point of contact for fault reporting in order to resolve user problems and or queries.
  4. Be responsible for the housekeeping and audit management.
  5. Have a working knowledge of database transfers and incident linking processes.
  6. Liaise between SPCB/UNISYS for fault reporting and HOLMES updates.
  7. Consider and explore innovative IT solutions to further the investigation, for example, scanner technology, importing and exporting data. 
  8. Deputise in any of the HOLMES roles, where required.

A role that requires policing experience and knowledge of the HOLMES system, a great place for veterans from the Service or Ministry of Defence Police looking to utilise their experience in a new role. 

Previous experience in policing is essential and candidates should have worked on HOLMES. 

Continuous professional development is crucial to the team, with the team receiving training at the College of Policing, with Home Office forces and in-house training. There are many other opportunities for staff to carry out secondary roles to support the Unit, developing skills in Diversity & Inclusion, Mental Health and other roles that interest the staff and benefit the team.

A driving licence is desirable due to travelling to locations
