Job summary

The Defence Serious Crime Command (DSCC) is the strategic command headquarters for the Defence Serious Crime Unit (DSCU) and was established in April 2022, following several independent reviews.   

DSCC sits outside the single services’ chain of command to ensure operational independence whilst providing strategic direction to the DSCU, allowing it to focus on the delivery of serious crime policing. This introduces consistency, collaboration and further professionalisation of this complex and deeply specialist area of law enforcement. 

We are looking for a well-organised and adaptable person to work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the team. 

Here at DSCC we are inclusive and dedicated, working to provide excellence in policing. We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Strategic Performance and Improvements Analyst to join a professional team here at the DSCC Headquarters at Southwick Park, Fareham. 

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

This dynamic and engaging role offers the right candidate the opportunity to support the Information Governance Team and will be responsible for supporting the DSCC’s delivery of strategic objectives by ensuring performance data is accurate and robust, ensuring data quality across the organisation, working collectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver a coherent approach to performance and improvement.

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:  

  • Apply tools and techniques for data analysis and data visualisation (including the use of business information tools) to identify, collect and migrate data from a range of systems.  
  • Manage, clean and aggregate data in support of analytical studies whilst presenting results in the most appropriate format for users. 
  • Develop and maintain a performance framework to include dashboards and other reporting mechanisms to communicate clearly DSCC data against Key Performance Indicators.  
  • To lead on the continual improvement of process and data delivery across DSCC business areas. This will include working collaboratively with other services and relevant support functions.  
  • Assist the Information Governance HEO with the production and upkeep of data and information management processes. 
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of data in support of specific inspections as required. 
  • To support services in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of internal service policies and strategies, in response to new business needs and improvement priorities. 

Essential Requirements:   

  • Experience in gathering, analysing and evaluating information to support action and inform decision making.    
  • Experience in the provision of specialist advice and knowledge on strategic issues and analytical techniques, both qualitative and quantitative.   
  • Knowledge of computer-based applications for data calculations and presentation.   
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Extensive skills in the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel and Powerpoint.    
  • Ability to balance several projects and prioritise with manager’s support. 

Desirable:    

  • Working knowledge of advanced statistical analysis.  
  • Experience working in an analytical team or experience in a related sector.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles (opens in a new window), and will assess your Behaviours and Experience.

Applications will be sifted on two Behaviours (Making Effective Decisions and Communicating and Influencing), but in the event of a significant number of applications, an initial sift will be conducted on the lead one (Making Effective Decisions).  In this instance the remaining elements will be tested at interview.
