Job summary

Royal Air Force Boulmer is looking to appoint a Mission Training Support Specialist within 20 Squadron (the Air Surveillance and Control System Operational Conversion Unit). This is an exciting opportunity to deliver and enable specialist Tactical Air Command and Control and Battle Management training in the Tactical Command and Control environment. This training supports individual role and collective Air warfare training to a range of students across defence. 

 This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. Job description

The successful candidate will be tasked with the effective management and quality of synthetic training delivered by A Flight, 20 Squadron, meeting all the requirements laid out in individual Role Performance Statements (RPS). They will use their previous experience to develop and run realistic scenarios, understand simulator capabilities and limitations, and support exercise and training output for the Squadron. The applicant must also display interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, in order to provide advice, guidance and support to all 20 Squadron trainers and trainees.
 

So, what does the Mission Training Support Specialist do? 

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Scenario development for A Flight courses.
  • Run events to ensure trainees receive appropriate and realistic injects as part of their training.
  • Be familiar with UK, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and US Doctrine to underpin realistic scenario development.
  • Understand the capabilities of the simulator equipment utilised by 20 Squadron.
  • Be prepared to support activity on some events in the Control and Reporting Centre that, from time to time, will form part of courses delivered by 20 Squadron.

Person specification

  • Strong organisational and IT skills. Competent user of Microsoft Office 365 applications.  
  • Strong verbal communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Promotes a positive working environment. 
  • Appropriate level of security awareness and confidentiality.  
  • Effective and considered emotional intelligence and the desire to develop others.  

Essential qualifications 

  • Defence Trainer Course unless you have completed legacy courses in accordance with Air Publication 3379.   
  • Must have previously held one of the following qualifications within the Air Surveillance and Control System, although equivalent qualifications within the Airborne Warning and Control System and Joint environment will be considered.  Master Controller, Surveillance Director, Fighter Allocator, Combat Ready Identification Officer or Combat Ready Weapons Controller.

 

Desirable qualifications 

 Combat Ready in one of the supervisor essential ASACS roles above.
