Job description 1
The Lead Adviser (Marine Major Casework - Terrestrial Ecology) will play a central role in the delivery of Natural England’s formal technical advice on the terrestrial ecology elements of major development in the marine environment.
This role will initially focus on the delivery of terrestrial elements around offshore renewable energy.
The post holder will:
- Act as terrestrial lead and build expertise in the delivery of Natural England’s advice on marine Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs) and other major developments.
- Deliver timely and evidence-based advice on the terrestrial elements of major developments, acting as the case lead, working closely with lead advisers national specialists, and senior and principal advisers to ensure our advice is quality assured and robust for external use.
This will include (but not be limited to):
- Review and comment on Environmental Impacts Assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments and supporting survey / modelling / technical reports during the project pre-application and application phases and work with developers to ensure all potential environmental impacts of developments have been fully addressed.
- Provision of statutory advice to competent authorities within specified statutory timeframes.
- Provision of comments, advice and guidance to developers on pre, during and post construction monitoring techniques / surveys and reports, under Natural England’s Discretionary Advice Service where appropriate.
- The provision of advice to competent authorities/decision makers on whether or not Development Consent Order requirements have been met.
- Identify any risks associated with the delivery of this work and ensure they are escalated appropriately within the project case team.
- Work effectively within Natural England to ensure join up in our advice on development and planning.
- Participate in relevant internal networks to ensure exchange of information and best practice and assist broader development of understanding within the wider organisation.

Locations
Natural England is adopting hybrid working – which means our staff work from a flexible range of locations, encompassing home, offices (ours and our partners) and relevant sites. All new staff will be formally linked to one of our 25 offices across England and the expectation is that all new staff will be able to access their local office to be part of the community of staff in their geographical area. Full time staff are expected to attend their associated office for a minimum of one day a week.
Staff members are required to carry out all their duties working in this way and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time. Travel expenses will be paid if work related travel is required but does not apply to travel between home and your associated office.

Pay
It is Natural England policy to employ at the entry point of the salary range.
