Job summary

The Trade Finance Division (TFD) sits within the Business Group and is accountable for the development and delivery of UKEF’s short-term business products: Bond Support Scheme, Export Working Capital Scheme, General Export Facility, Export Insurance Policy, and Bond Insurance Policy.

Job description

The Manager, Business Support Group, Short Term Business will oversee management of a team of one Higher Executive Officer and two Executive Officers.

 The job holder will need to

  •  demonstrate excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  •  Effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders whilst exhibiting the core Civil  Service values.
  •  Develop and utilise knowledge and understanding of UKEF’s entire product suite.
  •  Deliver business as usual activities with professional excellence, expertise and efficiency, taking account of the stakeholder/exporter’s needs.
  •  Support in the production of comprehensive and thorough analysis of MI.

Person specification

The main responsibilities of the post include:

Management

  • The job holder will manage a Higher Executive Officer and oversee management of two Executive Officers.
  • Job holder will provide support and guidance to the team members and will interact with them through weekly team meetings, and “one to one” meetings.
  • The job holder may be also responsible for assisting with job hires into the team, ensuring that the recruitment is in line with the Civil Service Code of Conduct.

Main Activities

The main responsibilities of the post include:

  • Oversee the UKEF external telephone enquiry helpdesk, and UKEF enquiries via email, both from domestic and international mailboxes. Ensure enquiries are dealt with in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Liaise with colleagues in the Export Finance Manager (EFM) team regarding new and ongoing customer enquiries, and support EFMs where necessary.
  • Liaise with Marketing and Communications colleagues (M&C) to ensure all leads from M&C campaigns and sources are dealt with appropriately.
  • Oversee Business Support Group work, and ensuring all relevant communications and documents are correctly processed and stored in the relevant UKEF systems and databases.
  • Provide coaching to junior members of staff, EOs and HEOs, in Business Support Group on customer service and UKEF products. Support more junior staff members to actively engage with other UKEF teams and colleagues to support their own learning and development.
  • Continuously communicate with management in Short-Term Business on developments in the enquiries line: level of activity, nature of activity on enquiries line, and quality of cross-team interactions between the BSG and EFM community.
  • Provide support to other teams in Short-Term Business when required.

The post holder is required to deal with various internal and external stakeholders such as borrowers, exporters, and financial institutions.

  • Developing the team’s knowledge of UKEF’s products and policies and internal/external factors that impact UKEF’s operating environment.
  • Ensuring adherence to all compliance protocols, including Financial Crime Compliance
  • Contributing to broader policy development and process improvement projects as applicable

Selection process details

  2. Technical - a 10-minute presentation (this will be on a topic determined by UKEF and will need to be prepared in advance).
