Job description

You will have an integral role to play, working as part of a small team to successfully develop and deliver the learning and development offer within Strategy, Policy and Communications Directorate (SPCD). The role purpose is to provide a brilliant customer service to colleagues ensuring that all moving parts are aligned and working efficiently to make this happen. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of learning activities to high standards within tight timescales.

This is a great opportunity to work in a fast paced role where no two days are the same. You will have a varied workload from coordinating learning and development requests to liaising with training providers and managing training budgets.
We will also look to you to monitor the generic mailbox, promptly responding to queries whilst also working collaboratively with team colleagues and stakeholders to ensure quality, timescales and standards are met.

You will need to be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role as and when business needs arise. 

Currently no line management responsibility is involved for this role, although this could change within the near future.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with the different directorate business areas to research internal and external training courses in support of directorate professional skills and ensuring that Agency learning and development processes and protocols are followed.
  • Liaising with Agency Training Budget coordinators to ensure that there are sufficient funds available, and to provide data to ensure that accurate financial forecasts are made to meet the directorates training and development needs.
  • Managing and maintaining any training contracts, as contract manager and support the Lead Officer. Keeping up to date with and adhere to all DVLA commercial contract management processes and policies, maintaining good working relationships with commercial advisors and other commercial colleagues.
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with SPCD and Agency colleagues, liaising with relevant business areas in support of coordinating opportunities for directorate colleagues to gain experience of other directorates and vice versa.

This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.  

Therefore, the expectation is that you will spend a minimum of 60% of your working time based at your principal workplace (DVLA). We would encourage you to discuss the working arrangements for this role with us during the recruitment process.

Person specification

We are seeking someone who has an interest within this profession and would like the opportunity to get involved with Learning and Development.

You are a self-motivated person who enjoys building solid working relationships at all levels and you love to work in collaboration with others to achieve a shared goal. You have high standards in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to comfortably tailor your communication style to suit your audience.

Excellent organisational skills are required, and you will be able to manage and filter workflow as well as organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines. You’ll thrive managing a varied workload and welcome autonomy to your role.
